COMMANDS TO BELIEVERS

What A Christian Must Know, Be And Do.

Introduction:
Behind every commandment of God lies the blessing of God to man. It is never
the intention of God to burden us, deny us, or prevent us from knowing, being or
doing something. After all what will God get if He instructs us not to do certain
things or do certain things. God does not need us, we need Him.

His commandments guards, guide, grounds, grows, and grooms us for his
blessings.

Examples of the commandments of God and its subsequent blessings

A. TO ADAM
1. Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have
dominion

Genesis 1:28 (KJV)

28
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and
multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion
over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living
thing that moveth upon the earth

2. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it

Genesis 2:17 (KJV)

17
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat
of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

God wanted Adam to enjoy life of abundance and fellowship with Him (john
10.10), therefore God gave Adam these two commandments so that it will be a
guide and a standard to live by. But because Adam refused to see it as a
blessing but a means to deny man certain glory and honor (genesis 3.4 – 6); the
serpent took advantage of that thought and robbed Adam of his God promised
blessings.

The devil first gets you to think less of Gods commandment before he can
rob you of your God given blessings.

B. TO ABRAHAM

1. Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house,
unto a land that I will shew thee

Genesis 12:1-3 (KJV)

1
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and
from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will
shew thee:

2. This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own
bowels shall be thine heir

Genesis 15:4 (KJV)

4
And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall
not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels
shall be thine heir.

3. Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into
the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering

Genesis 22:2 (KJV)

2
And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest,
and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt
offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

The reason why God commanded Abraham was not to get him out of his fathers
land or to deny him of his family inheritance but that God could isolate him for
unprecedented blessings. Genesis 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation,
and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in
thee shall all families of the earth be blessed

The commandments of God isolate you for Gods unprecedented blessings.

This was the mind of Abraham that was why obeying God was not a problem. He
knew all His blessings are tied to His commandments. The only way by which
you take delivery of your portion is to obey the commandment of God. We read
countless time where Abraham obeyed without reservations.

Genesis 12:4 (KJV)

4
So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went
with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out
of Haran.

For example behind the above commandments lied Abraham’s greatness. Your
greatness is behind if not all, one of Gods commandments waiting for your
obedience.

It took the commandment of God and the obedience of it to push Abraham into
the realms of sworn blessings.

Genesis 22:16-18 (KJV)

16
And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou
hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
17
That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy
seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea
shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
18
And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because
thou hast obeyed my voice.

The commands of God are divine vitamins to make or unmake a man.

Like vitamins, some are very bitter and others sweet depending upon what is
able to accomplish. The commands of God are like that, it is very bitter when
looked at and when practicing but very sweet when enjoying its fruits.

I want to believe when God commanded Abraham to sacrifice his son, it seemed
bitter but he looked beyond the bitterness and saw the sworn blessings.

You can obey Gods command when you look pass just how you feel, think, what
people will and are saying and just believe that faithful is he who have
commanded and He will never bring evil on you.

For example Isaac was commanded by God not to go down to Egypt during a
time when famine has hit the land of his dwelling. Besides, everyone at the time
was leaving for Egypt yet God commanded him alone not to go.

Genesis 26:1 (KJV)

1
And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the
days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines
unto Gerar.

Genesis 26:2 (KJV)

2
And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt;
dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:

It was so bitter because there was famine and everybody was leaving. Man has
the natural tendency to be and do what everybody else is being and doing.
However, if you are a believer you must learn to be alone with Gods
commandment. The bible says and Isaac looked beyond himself, people and the
circumstances of life and obeyed God. This catapulted him into the realms of
enviable blessings.

Genesis 26:12-14 (KJV)

12
Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an
hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.
13
And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became
very great:
14
For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great
store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.

The commands of God always set the stage for enviable blessings.

Commandments of God for the New testament Church

The church is under grace and not under law. This is true but the grace is not an
absence of laws but the abolishment of instant justice and also the Holy Spirit
steps in to help us to live the laws. That is why Paul said in

Romans 6:1-3 (KJV)

1
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2
God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Romans 6:12-23 (KJV)
12
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the
lusts thereof.
13
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but
yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your
members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but
under grace.
15
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace?
God forbid.
16
Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants
ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto
righteousness?
17
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from
the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19
I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye
have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity;
even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20
For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21
What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the
end of those things is death.
22
But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your
fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus
Christ our Lord.

All the commands of God for the church are blessings in disguise
