Swing into Learning Behavior!
Grade 2

Undesirable Behavior- During transitions, students are wondering around the room, talking, and
digging in their backpacks. This interferes with learning because when students are out of their seat, not
prepared, instructional time is being lost.

Desirable Behavior- At the beginning of each new activity, students will follow the Safari Standards.
Before the music ends:
Clean your desk of previous activities.
Be in your seat.
Have necessary materials ready.
Work quietly on your assignment.
Listen for further (or new) directions

Types of positive reinforcements-

1. Immediate R+- When all table members Follow the Safari Standards, the students will receive
one jungle animal.
2. Delayed R+- When the class as a whole earns 20 jungle animals, they will receive a puzzle
piece. There will be three animal puzzles to complete, each one with more pieces.
3. Overall R+- Once all three of the animal puzzles are completed, the students will participate in
a Safari Day.
4. I will quickly walk around each table and give the team captain a jungle animal on their desk,
when the team has Followed the Safari Standards. Puzzle pieces will be ready by the board,
and when the goal of 20 animals has been reached, the class helper will get to add 1 puzzle
piece to the poster during the next transition time. Puzzle one will have 3 pieces, puzzle two
will have 4 pieces, and puzzle three will have 5 pieces.

Interactive Learning Activity-
TEKS- 2.10 (A)- Organisms and environments. The student knows that organisms resemble
their parents and have structures and processes that help them survive within their environments. (a)
observe, record, and compare how the physical characteristics and behaviors of animals help them meet
their basic needs.
Prior to the learning activity, I will set up a tent with different level jungle books and stuffed
animals. For our Safari day, I will put the stuffed animals in different places outside the school on the
playground. The students will go on a safari, where I will give each group 4 clues and they must find all
of the animals.

Explain HOW you will Teach the Desired Behaviors-

I would do I do, we do, you do. I would use a fake bell and the transition music to practice
transitions and show the students how to follow the Safari Standards. Then, I would ring the fake bell
and start the transition music for the entire class to practice. Once the class as a whole was able to
practice, I would ring the fake bell and play the music unexpectedly and expect students to follow the
Safari Standards.

Explain HOW you will Teach the Plan-
I will ring the fake bell and play the transition music, while having one group demonstrate the
expected behavior and another group demonstrate the undesirable behavior. I will hand a jungle animal to the
group demonstrating the correct behavior. I will then have that group demonstrate that once there are 20 jungle
pieces, they are able to add a puzzle piece to the board. Finally, I will show all of the students how I will
monitor the puzzle board until all three puzzles are completed.

Provide Options- One option for this BCP is I could create another animal puzzle that had to be
completed. Also, another option could be the class would have to earn more than 20 pieces to receive a
puzzle piece.
