Conflict in Jasper Jones

Define Conflict:
The literary element conflict is an inherent incompatibility between
the objectives of two or more characters or forces. Conflict creates
tension and interest in a story by adding doubt as to the outcome.
Conflicts can be

External
o Character vs character
o Character vs society
Internal (a character is conflicted within themselves)

Brainstorm conflicts which occur in the novel in two lists- external


and internal- share with the class.

Wes vs. Ruth
Corrigan vs. Jeffreys family
Jasper vs. Mad Jack Lionel
Laura vs. her Dad
Eliza vs. her family.

Internal

Charlie- about what to do with his knowledge about what happened


to Laura
Eliza- about her guilt/what she knows about Laura.
