Some of the Companions who took part:

{And say: "Truth (Islamic Monotheism) has come and al-Baatil (falsehood,

polytheism) has vanished. Surely, al-Baatil is ever bound to vanish."}

[Surah Al-Isra 17:81]

The day of the conquest of Makkah, the Prophet said to its people:

,
"O Quraysh, what do you think that I should do to you?"
And they said, "Oh noble brother and son of a noble brother, we expect nothing but good
from you." Thereupon the Prophet declared:

"I speak to you in the same words as Yusuf spoke to his brothers: {No
reproach on you this day} [Surah Yusuf 12:92]} Go your way, for you are
free."

WHAT HAPPENED?

GEMS FROM THE COMPANIONS

(may Allah be pleased with them)

When the Muslim army was marching

towards Makkah, the Prophet ordered AlAbbas to detain Abu Sufiyan on the top of
the mountain, so he could watch it. The
army marched arranged by tribe and Abu
Sufyan asked about each tribe. When it
came to the last group, Abu Sufyan asked
who they were. Al-Abbas said they were
the Prophet and his Companions. Abu
Sufyan said to Al-Abbas: I swear by Allah
that the sovereignty of your brothers son
has become too powerful to withstand!
Al-Abbas said: It is the power of
prophethood. Abu Sufyan agreed.

Narrated Amr ibn Salamah: We were at a

place that people used to travel through,
and the caravans used to pass by us and
we would ask them: Whats wrong with
the people? Who is that man? They
would say, That man claims that Allah
has sent him (as a Messenger) [] and
that Allah has revealed to him such and
such. I used to memorise those
(revealed) words and feel as though they
were inculcated in my chest. And the
Arabs (other than the Quraysh) delayed
their conversion to Islam until the
conquest of Makkah. They used to say:
Leave Muhammad and his people (the
Quraysh): If he overpowers them, then he
is a true Prophet. So, when Makkah was
conquered, then every tribe rushed to
embrace Islam, and my father hurried to
embrace Islam before (the other members
of) my tribe. When my father returned to
his tribe (from embracing Islam), he said:
By Allah! I have come to you from the
Prophet for sure! The Prophet afterwards
said to them: Offer such and such prayer
at such and such time [] and let the one
amongst you who knows Quran the most
lead the salah. So they looked for such a
person and found no one who knew more
Quran than me, because of the Quranic
material I used to learn from the
caravans. So they made me their Imam
and, at that time, I was a boy, six or seven
years old. []
