Students will review how to use one- and two-point linear perspective to
create the illusion of depth on a 2D surface by creating three-dimensional
forms of various shapes.
Students will review basic shape drawing by identifying the base shapes in
a complex objects to create a still life.
Art Production
Day 1 45minutes
Guided Practice: 1 Point Perspective - In Sketchbook
Draw a high horizon line & one vanishing point to the left side.
Draw a square below the horizon. Draw a circle below the horizon.
Using 1 Point Perspective turn the square into a cube & the circle into
a cylinder. Darken the shape, leaving the convergence lines visible.
Guided Practice: 2 Point Perspective - In Sketchbook
Using the same horizon line from 1 Point Perspective. Add another
vanishing point on the right side.
Draw three cubes using 2 Point Perspective. Leave one a cube.
For the other two create two cylinders in 2 Point Perspective, one
standing upright and one on its side.
Day 2 45minutes
Demonstrate: Contour Mini Still Life
Independent Practice: In Sketchbook
Using contour lines draw the fabric and fruit on your table.
Dont forget to mark any areas of highlight and shadow.
Vary your line weight to create depth (dark lines in dips and shadow,
light lines on raised areas and highlights )
Create clean contour lines, no sketchy, dashed lines
Day 3 45minutes
Demonstrate: Basic Shapes Mini Still Life
Independent Practice: In Sketchbook
Using basic shapes block out the still life objects using a blue pencil
Add more defining features to the objects using a brown pencil.
Finish your drawing by tightening it up with a black pencil.

Balance, Proportion
Vocabulary
Horizon Line The apparent intersection
of the earth and sky as seen by an
observer.
Vanishing Point The point in linear
perspective at which all imaginary lines of
perspective converge.
Convergence Lines The lines that make
up the sides of an object in a perspective
drawing that relate directly back to the
vanishing point.
Parallel Lines Lines that are always
equal distance apart from each other.
They do NOT converge.
Contour & Line Weight- Contour
drawings use no shading, but lighter and
darker tonal areas can be "suggested" by
varying line width and pressure. Darker,
thicker lines can be used in shadow areas,
and lighter, thinner lines in lighter areas.

Aesthetic Questions
Modifications/Notes
-Do you find that some methods of drawing work in one part but not another?
-In what instance would contour drawing be preferable to basic shapes?
