1&2-Point Perspective

Review

UNIT PLAN
Course: Drawing
Medium: Graphite/Colored Pencil
Duration: 3 days

Kansas State Standard VA:Cr2.2.II & VA:CR3.2.I

Materials

Performance Standard: Through experimentation, practice, and persistence,

demonstrate acquisition of skills and knowledge in a chosen art form.
Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.

Sketchbooks
12x18 Drawing Paper
HB Pencils
15 Ruler
Colored Pencils

Objectives
n

Students will review how to use one- and two-point linear perspective to
create the illusion of depth on a 2D surface.

Students will demonstrate their skills in creating three-dimensional shapes

using one- and two-point perspective.

Art Production
Day 1 45minutes
Quick Demonstration: 1 Point Perspective
Create a horizon line and vanishing point.
Creating Cubes: Above, below, & on the horizon line.
Creating Cylinders: Above, below, & on the horizon line.
Guided Practice: In Sketchbook
Draw 9 squares in a grid (3x3).
Create hollow boxes bringing each to the center of the center box.
The back wall of your box should be visible.
Use shading to create an enhanced sense of depth.
Day 2&3 45+90minutes
Demonstrate: 2 Point Perspective
Create upright cylinders using two-point perspective. How to add
these to rectangular forms to create lego-like shapes
Create rounded edges to geometric shapes. To create the half curved
lego shapes.
Independent Practice: In Sketchbook
Draw a stack of legos. Must include:
At least 5 legos offset, no straight stacks.
Cylindrical pegs on top
1 Rounded lego
Leave some convergence lines visible. Darken outlines of your blocks.
(Add color using colored pencils)

Elements of Art
Line, Form, Space

Principles of Design
---

Vocabulary
Horizon Line The apparent intersection
of the earth and sky as seen by an
observer.
Vanishing Point The point in linear
perspective at which all imaginary lines of
perspective converge.
Convergence Lines The lines that make
up the sides of an object in a perspective
drawing that relate directly back to the
vanishing point.
Parallel Lines Lines that are always
equal distance apart from each other.
They do NOT converge.

Aesthetic Questions

-How does 1 Point Perspective differ from 2 Point Perspective?

-In what instance would 2 Point Perspective be preferable to 1 Point?

Art Criticism/Analysis Questions

-Do your projects clearly demonstrate illusion of space on a 2D plane?

-What would you do differently in your pieces if you were to do it over?
