Characters in Gods Not Dead and Their Levels of Faith

1. Professor Radisson 1; Prof. Radisson had the least amount of faith

among all the characters because, although he claimed to say that God
is dead, he had a feeling of hatred towards God; this shows that he
believed that God existed but just hated God for not saving his mother.
2. Pastor Dave 9; Although Pastor Dave was the go-to person among the
younger characters, it was his fear and doubt that kept him from
pushing through with his trip. Alternately, it was like he was meant to
leave at a later time so he could have his final encounter with Prof.
Radisson. This shows that even the people we look up to go through
trials that tests their faith. But when it came to having to leave for their
trip, Reverend Jude had to always remind him to have more faith.
3. Josh Wheaton 10; Josh was a very faithful character in the movie. He
was the only one who had the courage to defend the Lord even if he
couldve simply avoided the whole issue by doing what Prof. Radisson
wanted the students to do.
4. Amy Ryan 7; She acknowledges that God exists but because of her
being a blogger/reporter, it was in her nature to be doubtful and
inquisitive. But when she got the confirmation that she had cancer, its
as if she was looking for someone to comfort her and tell her that she
can be strong. I believe all Amy needed was assurance; she then
decided to follow Jesus and accept Him after she was able to meet and
talk to the Newsboys.
5. Martin Yip 8; I think in the earlier parts of the movie, Martin was still a
little confused as to what he wanted to believe because of what
Professor Radisson says and the lack of guidance his father had for
him. I believe that Martin was seeking a deeper relationship with a
higher power but was still in search of it. He admitted that Joshs
decision to prove that God exists affected him in a positive way and
then decided to be a follower of Christ.
6. Mina 8; Mina was in a relationship with Prof. Radisson but because of
the shaming and ridicule she endured for being Christian, she decided
to leave her unhealthy relationship because she knew that she couldnt
stay in a relationship with someone who mocks her faith. She sought
the advice of Reverend Dave because she wanted to know if she did
the right thing. She decided that, yes, she did the right thing because
dating someone who works to discourage you and tear you down will
keep you from becoming who God has created you to become.
7. Reverend Jude 10; Throughout the entire movie, Reverend Jude
showed complete faith in the Lord. In everything that he did, he saw it
as part of Gods plan and trusted that the Lord will guide him
throughout his journey.
8. Ayisha 9; For me, Ayisha has strong faith in the Lord because even
though Christianity was not the religion she practiced growing up, she
knew of her right to be able to choose. After being kicked out by her

own father, she was scared and sought advice from Pastor Dave.
Eventually, she accepted her situation and continued to put her faith in
the Lord and practice Christianity.
9. Willie Robertson 10; Willie was interviewed by Amy Ryan who was
practically calling him a hypocritical Christian. But Willie defended
himself by saying My life and my whole eternity belongs to God. All
this stuff is temporary, even life is temporary. But Jesus now thats
eternal. What he meant was that the material things and everything
we own on this earth doesnt matter but what matters is faith and love.
What do you think is the reason why prof Radisson come to believe
that god is dead.
As a child who saw his own mother pass away from cancer, he couldnt
understand why, even though he begged and prayed, his mother still
died. He couldnt understand why God said no and allowed such a
horrible thing happened. He believed that if God was indeed a good
God, and if God was able to hear his prayers, then his mother shouldnt
have died. But she did, and he ended up hating God for not saving her.
From that point on, up until his death, he associated his hatred for God
with the belief that God did not exist, that God was dead.
What sources did josh use to prove that Gods not dead?
In his first three sessions, Josh used a lot of theories and insights from
theists and atheists alike. He referred to different scientists, artists,
mathematicians, and philosophers. But in those three sessions, it was
as if he was starting to doubt, not Gods existence, but his own ability
to defend God. But in the final session, he had multiple arguments
against Professor Radisson but eventually won because Josh was able
make Professor Radisson admit that the latter hated God. Josh said,
How can you hate someone if they dont exist? to which Professor
Radisson replied, Youve proven nothing. But Joshs fellow students
made their decision and concluded that God is, in fact, not dead.
Among the characters in the film, with whom can you personally
relate in terms of faith level? Why? Bare bear
I believe that I personally relate to Amy Ryan in terms of faith level. I
acknowledge that God is there, I believe in Him and the good that He
wants me to do in this world. In the last year, Ive been experiencing
stress and anxiety that I never felt before and I really couldnt
understand why I couldnt handle it. I opened up to my mom about it
and we had a long talk. She said something along the lines of, What
you can do is pray. Pray to God and ask him to guide you and give you
strength. Youll get through this. So, I did. Sometimes, it takes a
difficult situation for us to realize and remember that we always had
Someone watching over us and loving us unconditionally. God is always
there. In my own way, I try to create a deeper relationship with God

through prayer and honestly, every time I remember and get the
chance to unload and talk to Him, I feel so much better.
