Step 3: Design Brief

Project Description- The experience in our college Sodexo canteen is felt

unpleasant by most of the student members. Especially after hectic college
schedule, students expect to a have a pleasant experience in the canteen but it
is not.
Project is all about why the experience in Sodexo
unpleasant, find the reason and provide alternatives.

canteen

is

Scope- Providing students with good food. Here Good food doesnt mean quality
but it does means the taste and experience.
As the alternatives in the campus like dine in, food kart etc. are costly we are
trying to identify where the problem is and come up with an alternative
We need to work closely with Sodexo team admin, college admin and the food
committee and identify the problem.
Constraints- We might require the financial transactions data between the
college and the Sodexo team which might be refused by them.
Providing good food might not be a problem, but providing good food at a budget
constraint might be a challenge.
Any changes suggested might or might not be accepted by the admins.
Target Users- Our college students, Sodexo staff.
Exploration Questions- Who will be our vendor?
How will we provide medicines immediately for emergencies?
How will we design the online platform to take orders?
Would doctors be ready to provide consultation without physical examination?
How much would the doctor charge for consultation?
Which common medicines and the quantities we can stock up to provide them
immediately.
Expected Outcomes- Will be able to identify the problem of why the food
doesnt taste good,
The cook might not be capable enough in preparing a tastier food or
Might need to bring change in the Menu or
The budget allocated by the college needs to be increased.
Based on the problem identification appropriate actions will be taken.

Success Metrics- The feedback book present in the canteen, Survey among the
student group.
DTC Step 4: Make Your Plans
Every challenge is different. Take some time to develop a plan thats custommade for your Design Thinking Challenge. Think about your time frame. Consider
what tools you might use. Will you work alone or with others? It is advisable to
collect a team with diversity of training, background and experience. This would
help you especially when exploring What is and What if. Where will you work?
It is better to create your war room where you can hang posters and visualize
the complexities and interdependencies. When will you get started? The sooner
the better!
There are three different elements you will want to consider explicitly:
Activities: What tools you will use? and what you will do? [Hint: Please revisit
the overview note to plan how you would navigate your journey through the four
questions and ten tools?]
People: The stakeholders, sponsors and supporters youll rely on, and
Research: How youll gather data to inform your work.
Project Plan
How will you approach your journey through the four questions? Take some
time to investigate what tools to use and the order in which youll use them.
Please plan to review now the IFG and SBB, the two prescribed books to
familiarize yourself with the array of available tools before making your
choices below.

Relevant People Plan

Its time to consider the human beings who are the target of your efforts or
whose help you need in order to succeed. Think about the whole range of
people your project might impact customers (internal & external),
colleagues, partners, decision makers, thought leaders, competitors, etc.
Please make a list of relevant people.

Who is already in your network? Whats the status of your relationship?

Whos not in your network? Where will you locate them? Whats your
strategy for engaging the ones most critical to your success?
As you are envisioning handling a project full of ambiguity, it is critical to
take time to consider your stakeholders complete with needs and wants and
motivations. Not only will your efforts help you build alignment and support,
they might also provide insights and clues to opportunities that await. Think
about a few of the most important stakeholders customers, suppliers,
partners, - whose cooperation you need and ask yourself the following
questions?

Your Research Plan
In design thinking, our inspiration comes from data. But its not simply data
that weve grown accustomed to from reading financial reports and studying
compiled survey data. Were looking for data on a very human scale
individual stories about people and their needs and how they relate to your
opportunity.
