LESSON 1 GETTING
TO KNOW EACH
OTHER
Whether its done with words
or pictures, collage or drawn
by hand, having students
describe themselves can be
fun, informative, and
occasionally surprising. Of
course, the self-portrait will
be most effective if you do
one of yourself, too.
2. NATIONALITIES,
OCCUPATIONS
Here is an excellent speaking
activity for teaching
traditional names, countries
and national languages. In
this activity, students also
learn how to introduce
themselves. Each student is
given an identity card
containing a traditional
name, country and language.
3. WORKING WITH
GRAMMAR
Each grammar item
challenges the students
knowledge of a specific area.
The aim is that students
work in groups to discuss
and answer a review
exercise, helping each other
understand any difficulties.
This is followed by a whole
class discussion and
correction. The discussion
will help you spot the
grammar points that may
need remedial work.

4. NUMBERS AND MORE

Lots of our students have
problems with big numbers.
Sometimes they dont know
where to say and.
Sometimes they confuse
numbers like sixteen and
sixty. In this lesson students
revise big numbers in a fun
way. First they play a
guessing game, then they
play Bingo! They finish with a
pair work jigsaw reading
activity.
5. FAMILY FRIENDS AND
MORE
Explain to students that they
are going to participate in a
one-week experiment called
"Let's Do Dinner." Family
participation will be key in
making the experiment work,
so you should write a letter to
parents explaining details of
the assignment.
6. PROJECT WORK
After playing the recording of
part one to the class (or
reading it aloud yourself), you
hand out one recto-verso
paper (worksheet number one
below) to each pair of
students. They take turns
being the "teacher", i.e. they
read the text aloud (without
letting their partner see the
text), they do the listen-andrepeat part having their
partner repeat, and then they
ask the sort of questions we
teachers tend to ask the
whole class.

WHATS THE WEATHER

LIKE TODAY?
Start off with your usual warm up
and try to get students talking
about seasons. Ask students what
season they like best and see if
anyone can explain why. This
could elicit much of the
vocabulary you plan to practice
during the lesson so if certain
vocabulary words come up, write
them on the board. You can also
talk about different activities
students like to do during
particular seasons and why some
of them, such as snowboarding,
cannot be done year round
8. ALPHABET SOUP
We play a game that we have
called, affectionately You and
Me. It is a great way to throw in
those sight words.(you and me) I
write You and Me, and we keep
score with tally marks. It is the
class against me. First, I tell the
students what I have to do before
anybody can shout out the
answer.
9. FUN AND TECHNOLOGY
The students will learn how to
effectively create a power point
presentation along with the
basics. This will help them in high
school for almost all of their
classes when they have projects
due and it gives them a new
perspective on presentations.

CICLO LECTIVO AGOSTO - DICIEMBRE DE 2016

Semana del 29 al 2 de
Septiembre

10. AT THE STAR BOX CAF
"Celebrating Me" involves a
combination of cognitive and
affective skills resulting in a
motivating and enjoyable
learning experience. It fosters
self-awareness, appreciation
and recognition of one's own
individual talent or interest,
and those of others, while
using speaking, listening, and
viewing, as well as writing.
Since each student selects a
topic in which he is already
knowledgeable, or has
experienced success, the
interest level is intrinsic.
Positive self-concept and
confidence occur as students
prepare their speeches and
share them with the class, thus
working to be effective
communicators.
11. FURTHER PRACTICE
This is where most lessons will
start. If the song is nonfiction,
first ask if anyone is familiar
with the topic covered (i.e., the
Gold Rush or superstitions).
Click on Intro and select a
student to read the
introduction aloud. The
introduction familiarizes
students with the topic covered
in the song. Feel free to
provide additional information.
For example, you may wish to
have students look at a map of
the United States before you
play the Gold Rush song or
discuss common superstitions
before you begin the
superstitions song.
