Visual aids such as illustriations, diagrams and maps are powerful
ways to enhance the reading activities. Most of the people learn
better with visual aid and these aids draw much more attention than
simply the reading text. A reading text without visual tools can be
boring and distracting. Visual tools appeal to students imagination
and thus help them to stay focused on the lesson and comprehend
the reading text and activities better. They can also make
connections between the content elements via diagrams and visual
tools can help them to remember what they have learned.
2. What are the advantages of using real (i.e. authentic) texts rather
than texts that have been specially written or adapted for
classroom purposes?
Although using auhentic texts in the classroom is difficult due to
the fact that we should find credible sources, it is a better way
when we think about their content. They are related to real life
and n my opinion this makes it much more interesting. To me, if
someone is learning a foreign language he/she should also be
familiaized with the culture and this can be possible through
authentic texts and materials. That is, the students can get to
learn more about a certain culture through authentic materials.
They might be hard for beginners but they can be simplified by
teachers as well. In addition, the student can learn how to ignore
the arts that are not important and this way they can improve
their time management skills.
