UNIT: UNIT 9, Going Out
TEXTBOOK USED: Upstream, class VIII
TIME: 50 minutes.
AIMS: -to get students interested in matters concerning means of entertainment;
-to foster fluency;
-to develop students reading skills;
-to identify specific information and details in film reviews;
By the end of the class, the students: -will be able to use language related to likes and dislikes when talking about indoor
and outdoor activities;
- will have enriched their vocabulary related to entertainment;
STRATEGY:

Lead-in

-announces the title and the aims of the


new lesson and writes the title on the
blackboard;
-draws a spider web on the blackboard
and discusses with Ss about
indoor/outdoor activities;
- shows to Ss some pictures
representing different indoor/outdoor
activities, for example: swim, brakedance, mountain- trip, movie poster,
circus, opera, etc.

- Ss have to recognize and to write on the


blackboard indoor and outdoor activities;
-Ss have to write the new words in their
notebooks;
I like watching TV in Weekends!
I like going to cinema
I dont like staying at home, its boring.

Teaching

-asks Ss to read the texts from the


book,page102-103;
-asks What is the meaning of the title?
Where could you read the text? What
type of entertainment is mentioned?
-asks the Ss to complete the new words
in their notebooks.
- writes on the blackboard new
vocabulary;
-explains the meaning of the new words
and expressions related to
indoor/outdoor activities;

-read the text and inquire about the new


words;
(exiting, boring, interesting, awful, etc)
-answer the questions and they write the new
vocabulary in their notebooks;
-talk about their favorite/least favorite
hobbies:
There is nothing I like more than dancing
because it gives me the chance to relax and
to express myself freely and without
constraint.
Im not overenthusiastic about sailing, as I

-divides the class into six groups, then


asks Ss to find the picture that
corresponds to the number of their
team;
-teacher allows 4 min to brainstorm
within their groups and came up with as
much vocabulary as they can to
describe each picture;
-T. writes the vocabulary on the board;
-encourage Ss from another group to
ask questions or to add details;
-then asks Ss around the class to report
back their answers. The best answers
are rewarded with a blue dot .The team
who collects the most blue dots is the
team who wins the competition.
-gives handouts in which they have to
complete the type of event, location,
price and additional information.

as opposed to white water rafting which is
really exciting and lifts the spirits and the level
of adrenaline.
-they have to look at the pictures and
subheadings and elicit the different types of
entertainment being advertised;
Suggested answers: Theatre(murder play,
musical comedy),music and dance, cinema,
art exhibition, comedy show;
A. A combination of dinner and theatre play,
where the audience is expected to
become involved in helping to work out
who has committed the murder.
B. A dance performance with a variety of
styles of music from different cultures;
C. A film show on a large screen in a
cinema equipped with the latest
technology;
D. An art exhibition showing paintings,
drawings and photographs of a well
known modern artist;
E. A place where you eat dinner while
listening to people performing in a
comedy show.
