A1. Numerical study of vortex induced vibration of various blu bodies for design optimization of
an energy harvester.
Flow induced vibration is numerically investigated for flow over three dierently shaped blubodies at dierent fluid velocities to find the most
appropriate energy harvester shape. To optimize
and refine the design of a cantilever based novel
energy harvester, the computation has been done
for cylindrical, triangular and elliptical blu bodies to which the harvester is attached. A Fast
Fourier Transformation is performed on the estimated vibration frequency to yield the frequency
of vortex shedding. From the wake velocity profile,
lift oscillation and frequency of vortex shedding is Fig A1.1:Velocity contour at Re = 270 and t=7s for

are analyzed. A higher synchronized bandwidth
of shedding frequencies is an indication of an optimized harvester design. Both triangular along
with elliptical shaped blu bodies were found to
be more suitable than that of cylindrical shaped
blu bodies. Elliptical shaped blu bodies yield a
wide range of lock-in frequency compared to that
of triangular shaped blu bodies. Moreover, blu
body shape has a prominent influence on vortex induced vibration and elliptical blu body gives the

Reynolds number.

A2. Heat transfer enhancement in a circular tube in fully developed turbulent flow using delta winglet
vortex generators.
An experimental investigation has been carried
out to study the convective heat transfer enhancement. In a circular tube, V-array delta winglet vortex generators were (DWVGs) inserted to study
dierent common flow up configuration of delta
winglet pairs (3, 5 & 9). The angle of attack was
set at 10 , 15 and 20 . The flow was varied in the
turbulent regime , from 2.04 to 6.04 . Air velocity,
air inlet and outlet temperature, wall temperature Fig A2.1:Comparison of the variation of heat transand pressure drops along the axial length of the test fer coecient with Reynolds Number. ( Number of

tor, Nusselt number, and heat transfer co-ecient.
At comparable Reynolds number, heat transfer coecient in tube with in row V-array DWVG is enhanced by 1.41 to 3.51 times, Nusselt Number increased by 1.6 to 3.6 times , friction factor increased
by 3.3 to 6.2 times. But the pumping power increases as much as 6 times compared to that of
smooth tube.
