1.a. A Healthy Person
Being healthy means a lot of things. There are many things to consider
when talking about being healthy. Being healthy does not only mean that you do
not get sick. Your overall healthy condition is affected by your social, emotional,
mental and physical health.
Your social health refers to how you get along with other people. This
refers to your behavior around other people. You are socially healthy if you are
pleasant, have positive outlook, can get along well with other, and has a happy
and good disposition.
Your emotional health refers to how you express your feelings. You are
emotionally healthy if you can express your feelings in a positive way. You are
can control your emotions when you need to. Your mental health refers to the
way you cope with what is required of your everyday life. This includes your
emotional, psychological, and social health. It affects how you think, feel, and act.
Your physical health refers to the part of your health that deals with the
condition of your body. You are physically healthy when your body systems
function well the way are designed to function. Your physical health is affected by
regular physical activity, enough rest and sleep and good nutrition.
The four parts or components of your health are equally important to your
overall well-being. To keep yourself healthy or keep your health balanced, you
need to:
Stay socially healthy by being considerate of others.

Stay emotionally healthy by expressing your feelings in a


healthy or positive way.
Stay mentally healthy by dealing with stress appropriately.
Stay physically healthy by taking care of your body.
1.b. The Three Different Food Groups
Go Foods
Go foods are energy-giving foods. They provide carbohydrates for your
body.
Carbohydrates give you energy to work and play. Foods that are good sources of
energy include rice, bread, corn, pasta, and root crops like potatoes, camote and
cassava.
A child like you who is physically active uses up a lot energy each day.
Your body breaks down the food to produce energy.
Think of the different activities that you do from morning until nighttime.
You walk, dance, sing, jump, play and many more.
Grow Foods
Grow foods are body-regulating foods. Grow
foods provides protein that is needed by your body.
The nutrient protein promotes growth and bodybuilding. It helps build your bones and muscles.
Foods like eggs, meat, fish, milk, and other dairy
products belong to this food group. Other sources of
grow are nuts, beans, and soya products.
Glow Foods
Glow foods are body-regulating foods.
Glow foods provides vitamins and minerals.
They are needed for the health of your immune
system. Your immune system protects your body
against diseases and other infections. Vitamins
and minerals promotes healing of injuries. They
also assist in the process of digestion. Some
glow foods are rich in healthy skin, nails, and
hair. Fruits and green-leafy vegetables are good
sources of potassium, vitamin C and folate. Vitamin C helps heal your cuts and
wounds. They also keep your teeth and gums healthy. Folate helps produce your
red blood cells.

LESSON 2: Changes That Take Place in the Structure of a Family

Is a family always composed of a mother and a father to be called a family?
Why? Why not?
Changes often take place in the structure of every family in a community. It
is important to know the different factors that cause these changes.
In this lesson you will learn the different types of family and how the
advancements in technology and increasing demands by the society affects the
roles of each family member.
HEALTH WATCH
The family is the basic unit of society. It is
primarily composed of the mother, father, and
children. This type of family is called a nuclear
family. This is a well-known and universal form of
family.
Filipinos are known for having close family
ties. In most Filipino families, it is commonly
