Course Description:
This course is designed to help students understand basic concepts between
cultures, their geographic locations on Earth, and how that relationship influences
the governmental and economic climate of those societies. The themes of
geography include: location, human-environment interaction, culture, movement &
migration, governance, production distribution & consumption, conflict & change,
and time, change & continuity . Students will focus on the relationships between
these topics in the context of Africa and Asia and their relevance to the 21st
century.
Course Objectives:
This course will follow the Georgia Performance Standards set forth by the
State Department of Education. There are thirty-two objectives ranging from
physical characteristics of the earth, cultural characteristics of the earth, and
analyzing maps, graphs, and other information. All thirty-two objectives will be
covered during the course. The seventh grade social studies standards are posted
on the Georgia state website at: http://www.georgiastandards.org/socialstudies.aspx

Units:
Each unit of the curriculum will consist of multiple days of class time. While
studying these units, various daily assignments, notebook checks, projects, quizzes,
and tests will be involved during the learning process.

Technology and Resources:


Multiple materials and resources will be utilized to encompass specific portions
of the curriculum for 7th grade social studies. We will use a variety of text books,
google classroom, edmodo, and internet resources. If students need to check out a
textbook from me, there will be a system in place to do so. Students must follow
technology usage rules outlined in the student handbook.
Grading Rubric:
Summative Assignments 60%
Classwork 30%
Other 10%
Summative Assessments:
This will include tests, projects, reports, and presentations.
Classwork:
This will include quizzes, notebook checks, note taking, and participation.
Other:
This will include homework, vocabulary, and other additional assignments.
Exams:
Exams are given at the end of each semester. However, exams may also be
given at the end of any quarter. Therefore, students should retain all materials
related to this course until the conclusion of the school year. All exams will receive a
study guide.
Behavior:
Respect the teacher, other students, yourself, and school property.
Misconduct and misbehavior will not be tolerated in the classroom. Students are
expected to follow the school rules outlined in the student handbook, discipline
plan, and dress code at all times.
Be on time. Most of your academic classes will be conducted in this hallway.
Therefore, be prepared to begin class as soon as the bell rings. Complete your
assignments. Finishing work will aid the learning process and make you competent
for standardized exams and future social studies courses. School procedures are
expected to be followed within the classroom. Students will only be allowed the
leave the room in emergency situations. Use bathroom privileges sparingly.
