Genral Recommendations For Using HDI Valves
Pressure Ratings
Seals
Unless oterwise specified,all HDI cartridges and

valves have the continous duty pressure ratings
as shown in this catalog.All cartridge valves having
pressure rating above 245 Bars (3500 psi) apply to
cartridge valves installed in steel carrier blocks only.
When used with water-glycol,water/oil emulsions,

and high-grade petoleum base hydraulic fluids,HDI
standard nitrile seals are suitable.
When using phosphate esters fluids or their blends,
specify HDI optional seals made of Viton.Synthetic
fire-resistant fluids require special seal materials
which your HDI representative can recommend.
Cartridge Installation
Cartridge must be lubricated prior to installation to
prevent seal damage.
Body Parameters
Service
Integrated hydraulic circuit valves designed with HDI
cartridge valves are easily serviced by simply
unscrewing the defective cartridge and replacing with
new one.HDI cartridge valves are not field serviceable
with the exception of the external seals.Replacement
seal kits for the external seals are available for all HDI
cartridge valves.
Cartridge Porting
Prior to installation of individual cartridges or
cartridges in bodies,please review flow and
pressure ratings of individual cartridges.
System Cleanliness
Any hydraulic system that includes HDI valves should
be carefully protected against dirt and fluid
contamination.Life of the valves, as well as of all other
components,will be greatly lengthened.Operation will
be smoother and more precise.Lost production because
of low pressure and flow will be minimized.
Fluid contamination should be maintained to less
than 500 particles larger than 10 micrometers per
milimeter of fluid (SAE Class 4 or better/ ISO Code
16/13)
Hydraulic fluids
HDI recommends using top-quality hydraulic fluid
having a viscosity range of 150 to 250 SSU
(32 to 54 cst.) at 100F.(38C) The absolute viscosity
range should be within 80 to 1000 SSU(16 to 220cst.)
Fluids should have highest anti-wear characteristics
and be treated to avoid rust and oxidation.
Body sizes shown in this catalog are in mm

unless and otherwise specified .These sizes are for
standard port size which may vary for optional port
size.All ports are BSP threads unless and otherwise
specified.
Special Requirements
Consult your HDI representative for factory
recommendations on such situatios as:
1) Installations that will operate regularly at
pressures higher than publised catalog ratings;
2) Use of hydraulic fluids other than those
mentioned above;
3) Operations where fluid temperature will
exceed 176F (80C).
User's instructions
The buyer shall not use the valves for purposses
different from what pointed out in the relevant
drawings or in the HDI cataloge.
If the buyer wants to use the valves for other
purpose, he shall ask specific approval from HDI.
All HDI valves are tested and checked in
compliance with the specification shown by
the relevant documents. Since the actual detailed
performance of the buyer's equipment cannot be
totally reproduced in HDI's testing laboratory,the
full assurance of suitability of HDI valves in the
buyer's application is the responsibility of the
buyer.Generally the buyer will validate the valve
in his own application by manufacturing a
prototype to be submitted to a full testing program.
