Dear Elizabeth Benedict:
This summer semester in Technical and Professional Writing it has been challenging in a
positive way. Our Journal topics were positive and encouraging for us to complete our
projects with ease. Giving the opportunity to have our rough drafts critiqued was something
was new to me, and I should have taken advantage of more throughout the course. The
course outcomes presented in the syllabus have all been met, and I would like to express
what I have learned and plan to use for future projects in school and professionally.
Our first objective that is expressed in the syllabus is Analyze Rhetorical Situation we as
students were able to analyze the subject by finding a topic that we were able to relate to.
We were also able to find a purpose by clearly explaining problems and solutions. The
analyzing the audience was something that we were able to do by knowing who we are
going to be presenting or problems and solutions to. We were able to break down what
element belong in a document by being aware of the subject and purpose. A good example
of finding and analyzing a subject would be our initial project where we found a job listing
and created and electronic biography along with a cover letter and resume for that job
listing. That also incorporates our ability to analyze who were are presenting that
information to along with what might come up when trying to create an electronic area for
that audience.
Our second objective was to Find and Evaluate Information after we analyzed our subject,
purpose, and audience we were able to use resources available to use to find out
information that can support our ideas. The amount of information out there is
overwhelming and gave us the opportunity to evaluate the information for its impact and

accuracy. Professional resources available to us like Weebly and Job listing sites are sites
that can be used more than once for future progress. Our academic resources that were
available to use through UNM Libraries were helpful to find statistics for both our proposal
and recommendation report. The value of information that is out there is impressive and
having the ability to determine what fits well in our documents for quality is important to
our professional development.
Our third objective was to Compose Documents and strategically organize our content into
a document that has a design style that is professional and personal. It gave us a voice and
the ability to sculpt our documents in a professional structure and an appealing design. An
example of composing documents would be our personal design to our documents that
incorporated our multimodal text. Our abilities to create a rough draft and obtain feedback
from our peers had an impact on our documents and promoted teamwork. Having a clear
design also gave us the opportunity to express our thought to the audience we intended the
document for.
Our fourth objective was to Present Documents to our audience we were able to
accomplish this by incorporating different types of graphics and charts in our documents.
We also met this objective by presenting out documents with verbal presentation that we
developed during our recommendation reports. They had to be toward our audience and
express what we were presenting in our documents in a brief 3-5 minutes. We also
obtained this objective by obtaining critiques and making changes to our documents to
ensure that they met our design and style by being clear and informative.
Our fifth and last objective to Compose in Various Modes also presented the opportunity to
create presentations expressing our documents information in an abbreviated way to
express the use of technology that is used in most professional settings. It was imperative
that we had a good understanding of who our intended audience is and to have the
information expressed in all aspects of text, video, or audio. It also gave us the opportunity
to learn what medium our audience would most likely use. We were able to successfully to
this by creating our presentations with the information we gathered from our proposal and
recommendation report.
