Hazards must be analyzed, identified, and controlled. -Fundamentals of Safety [Pg. IV-V] 2.) Principle number 2 Isolations of work hazards must be adequate and secure. - The space in which a welder is to work shall be od sufficient sixe and clearance to provide adequate working space for the welder. [Pg. 59 section 1209] - Employees subjected to hazardous dusts, gases, fumes, mists or atmospheres deficient in oxygen shall be protected with approved respiratory protection. [Pg. 53 section 1004] 3.) Principle number 3 Personnel must be trained to do their jobs correctly, safely. - Before proceeding with a job, the employee shall satisfy himself that he can perform the work safely. If he is assigned to work he is not qualified to perform, he shall call this to the attention of his supervisor. [Pg. 1 section 107] - All employees concerned shall understand the procedures to be followed(tailboard conference). Under no circumstances shall safety be sacrificed for speed. [Pg. 1 section 107] 4.) Principle number 4 Facilities, equipment & parts shall meet all requirements. - All tools, regardless of ownership, shall be of an approved type and maintained in good condition. Tools are subject to inspection at any time. [Pg. 6 section 122] - Each operating employee is expected to know how to apply one or more of the accepted methods of artificial respiration. Employees who climb are expected to be able to administer pole-top resuscitation in addition to one or more of the other accepted methods. [Pg. 86 section 1802]
5.) Principle number 5
Procedures must be written , clear, approved, understood. - Each employee will be given a safety rule book at beginning of employment and shall become thoroughly familiar with the rules of this manual as they apply to their work activities. [Pg. 1 section 101] - Before commencing any work that may be hazardous, care shall be taken to establish a safe procedure. Where more than one employee is engaged in the same job, all employees concerned shall understand the procedures

6.) Principle number 6
Changes must be analyzed for system and parts risks. - When an employee observes a hazardous condition that could cause injury or property damage, it shall be reported promptly to the proper authority, and when necessary, guard it. [Pg. 1 section 106] - The driver shall report any defects which may have developed during the day. If the brakes are not working properly, they shall be adjusted or repaired before the vehicle is put into the operation. [Pg. 63 section 1402] 7.) Principle number 7 Residual hazards must be monitored and controlled. - Asbestos fibers which are suspended in the air in a significant quantity can cause bodily harm if the fibers are inhaled. To protect personnel, certain precautionary measures must be taken in areas where there is a significant quantity of airbone fibers. [Pg. 51 section 1001] - Polychlorinated Biphenyls (P.C.B.) is a nearly indestructible hazardous chemical. There are established rules and regulations governing the handling and disposal of P.C.B. [Pg. 52 section 1002] 8.) Principle number 8 Management shall control systems safety programs. - Existing governmental codes, statues, rules and orders shall be considered a part of this manual and where any conflict exists between the two, those of governmental status shall prevail. [Pg. 1 section 102] - Each operating employee will complete the companys first aid multimedia course and certified. First aid courses will be reviewed periodically so that employees certification will be current. [Pg. 87 section 1802]
