Materials needed to facilitate the lesson:

Computers in class, lab, or at home

Access to library for books, magazines, maps, etc

Publisher or similar design program

Word or similar word processor program

Printer and paper

Suggested group size: 3-4 student (larger groups or more groups per brochure for lower
grades)
Procedures: Each teacher in the school will be assigned at least one country. Higher grades or
larger classes will receive additional countries to research. Students will be divided into smaller
groups (see above) and given a country to research.

The groups will be first conduct research at home, in the library, and during class. This
will take place over several days during allotted times at school and assigned for
homework. General information on the country as well as places to visit or things to do
must be included. Statistical information must include, but is not limited to population,
capitol, size, currency, official language, official flag and, governmental information.
There must be a minimum of 6 things to do in this country. They may be as specific as
physical locations or as broad as regional foods to try.
Once the information is gathered, they will begin designing a travel brochure for their
country. This will be a graphical design including pictures and text done on the computer
using Publisher or another similar program. They must include statistical information as
well as pictures to entice visitors. This general information will be on the outside of the
brochure. Inside will be photos and typed information on things to do.
A template has been provided and can be found in the shared folder on the schools
network. The template has boxes showing roughly where it will be folded. Before
printing, delete the boxes.
Students will also provide a short Word Processed description on each group members
participation.
Students will then give an oral presentation on their country. Students will be encouraged
to get creative with their presentation. Songs or short skits will be accepted.

Assessment: Students will be graded on the quality of research and whether or not it was
relevant to the topic. Did they include all required information? Did they check for grammar

and punctuation? Students will be graded on their knowledge and ability use computer
programs. Group participation and oral presentation will also count for a smaller percentage
of the grade.
