NEW FLOOD MAPS

From the Hampton City
Website:
June 10, 2016 New maps that should
more accurately assess
the risk of flooding went
into effect in Hampton
last month. Homeowners
whose property is now in
a potential flood zone
may be hearing from
their insurance or
mortgage company that
they need to purchase
flood insurance for the
first time.

How to Report a Streetlight Outage

If the light is on a public street, it's most likely a
streetlight. Streetlight outages must be reported
by calling us at1-866-DOMHELP(1-866-366-4357) . You may also call 311
and the Hampton call center rep will take down
the info. Make sure you report the pole number
that is effecting the lamp outage.

Summer Home
Maintenance Tips
Check your homes gutter system
to ensure rainwater is flowing freely
down and away from the
foundation.

Please do not rake or blow

leaves and grass clippings into the
street, curb or easements. Keep
these areas free of debris to deter
flooding during heavy rains.

Summer is Travel Season!

Remember to review the rules for
parking campers, recreational
vehicles, and trailers in Howe
Farms.

Rules Committee

We need two volunteers for our rules committee. Members will

work with our Vice President, Mike Heath (mheath@nfx.net)
to develop any rules changes that will be on the ballot at our
annual meeting in 2017.

I thought youd like to know.

Pet parents, there has been a spate of unruly dogs leaving their business
all over the neighborhood! Since I know youre ALL responsible owners
who have raised your pet children to be thoughtful of others and to NEVER
leave any trace of their indelicates where others might step in it, I just
knew that you would like to be made aware. Armed with this, you can
lecture them against such activities. Now, I know teenager pets will be
teenager pets, but the better informed you are about who theyre hanging
out with and what theyre up to will make this a safer place (to step) for all.
So, please, teach them to pick up after themselves or dont let them out.

Quick Tip for Cleaning those

Outdoor Patio Cushions:
Combine 1 quart warm water, 1
teaspoon dishwashing detergent,
and 1 tablespoon borax in a bucket.
Scrub the cushions on both sides
with a rag or sponge. Let the
solution soak in for 15 minutes.
Rinse with a hose.

NEW MEMBERSHIP CHAIR: My husband Bob and I have lived in Howe

Farms since 1986. Bob is retired U.S. Navy and also worked as a private
contractor after that. We have two grown sons and five grandchildren. I have
been active in the association off and on since we've lived here. Being a former
military family, I never thought I would end up living in the same city where I
and our sons went to high school, but here we are!

EVENT UPDATE

HOWE-DY NEIGHBOR!!!
Don and Marti Grenier

The neighborhood garage sale was a

success! The board would like to
thank all who participated.

The Greniers have lived here since

October, 1983. They have two adult
children, one in Richmond and one in
Texas.

Don is retired from both the
military and a follow-on civilian career.
He now reads and walks his little white
dog four times a day.

Marti is a Master Gardener and
Tree Steward, plays bridge and Mah
Jongg, and is active in her church at
Gloria Dei Lutheran. She also works
one day a week at Transitions Family
Violence Services as a Clinical
Consultant.

They spend a good portion of the
year int the Outer Banks. They enjoy
their neighbors in Howe Farms and
plan to continue living here for a long
long time.

STANDING WATER IS A HAZARD!!

It breeds mosquitos! Private mosquito killing businesses are cropping up every year. The
problem is that what kills a mosquito will kill ALL pollinators including butterflies, ladybugs,
moths and the declining honeybee -vital to nearly every crop Americans consume: almonds,
apples, avocados, berries, broccoli, melon, lemons and limes to name just a few Once a week
police your yard, dump out anything that captures water. Here are a list of possible receptacles
you may have:
pet water bowls
pools and pool covers
flowerpot saucers
birdbaths
discarded tires
trash cans, and
buckets
rain barrels.
Let the city control the mosquitos. They call beekeepers and let them know when the
will be spraying and beekeepers can take precautions to keep bees alive.

THE HAMPTON CITY MOSQUITO CONTROL DIVISION (ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES)
CONDUCTS ADULT MOSQUITO SURVEILLANCE BY TRAPPING AREAS AT NIGHT TO
DETERMINE MOSQUITO COUNTS. THIS INFORMATION IS ASSESSED ALONG WITH
CITIZEN CALLS TO 311 TO DETERMINE IF AN AREA MEETS THE SET THRESHOLDS
ESTABLISHED FOR CONDUCTING TRUCK SPRAY OPERATIONS AND/OR TREATING THE
WATER WITH ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE LARVICIDES.
HOWE FARMS IS LOCATED IN OUR HARRIS CREEK ROUTE WHICH IS OF THE FIRST
AND MOST FREQUENT AREAS TO TYPICALLY GET SPRAYED, SO YOU SHOULD GET
SOME RELIEF SOON.
REMEMBER SPRAYS ARE ONLY TEMPORARY AND ALL RESIDENTS SHOULD UTILIZE
REPELLENT WHEN POSSIBLE. RESIDENTS SHOULD CALL 311 TO GENERATE A WORK
ORDER FOR SPRAYING. THIS IS A KEY TOOL IN HELPING US TRACK WHERE AND
WHEN NUISANCE MOSQUITO ISSUES BEGIN TO ARISE. IN THE MEANTIME, CHECK THE
HOTLINE OR CHECK OUR WEBPAGE FOR SPRAYING UPDATES.
