The video is from YouTube and its title is Something Cute: Difference Between

Boys and Girls. The video mainly describes several conditions in which boys and girls
act differently. It is interesting to see in the video, which actually really happen in our
life. It shows nine conditions and begins from a mirror. A boy stands in front of mirror
and he is satisfied what figure he is having which is not really perfect. However, a wellshaped girl stands in front of mirror and is upset with her figure. The start obviously
highlights how difference of boys and girls. They response and act to the same condition
differently. And then the video introduces other eight situations. In the video, girls spend
three hours to get ready for a party while boys take one minute. Girls go to toilet in
groups while boys go by oneself. It costs girls two hours to choose a filter while it only
costs a second for boys. There are other six examples like shopping, haircut, jealousy etc.
However, there is no explanation for me to answer why girls always want to go toilet
with a group but boys do not ask other boys when they go to toilet. Such behaviors and
differences between can be explained by term Nurture in socialization. In the SoftChalk
Lesson, it explains the term Nurture by The role our social environment plays in selfdevelopment. Boys and girls develop those behaviors to differ themselves from others.
There is no parents or law or custom for us to restricting ourselves of those behaviors.
From self-development, boys and girls form two groups and act differently. It is behavior
characteristics to distinguish boys and girls. The characteristic difference between boys
and girls is more obvious with each passing day. Thats how the term Nurture explains
the situation of this video. Nurture makes the society into different classification and
contributes the diversity to society.
The paradigm the video highlights is functionalism. Herbert Spencer explained
functionalism as the various organs in the body work together to keep the entire system
functioning and regulated, the various parts of society work together to keep the entire
society functioning and regulated. Boys and girls are parts of society and those two parts
together create the social community. Those two various parts are totally different. They
are physically different, mentally different and behave differently. However, these two
parts keep the society balance and work perfect. Without either of these two, the society
would be out of order just like organs do not work together in the body. Durkheim is a
sociologist emphasized his work on functionalism. He claimed, society as a complex
system of interrelated parts, working together to maintain stability. This means each part
influences the others. In a healthy society, all of these parts work together to produce a
stable state called dynamic equilibrium. The society is made up by different people. An
individual can create a community, but in order to understand society, religious, beliefs
and customs are important. In the video, when the father knows that his son is in
relationship with a girl, the father encourages him brave and responsible. However, when
the father knows that his daughter is in relationship with a boy, the father becomes
stressed and angry. The attitude towards his son and his daughter are different. This is a
part of beauty of society. That is what Durkheim stated about how different parts work
together to maintain the stable of community. As the father of the boy, the father shows
his politeness and best wishes. But as the father of the girl, the father shows his stresses
and responsibility. Therefore, an individual can have different attitudes. Various people
will have multiple habits and behaviors towards different people. The example Durkheim
made was one function of a societys laws may be to protect society from violence,
while another is to punish criminal behavior, while another is to preserve public health.

Durkheim would agree with the main idea the video explores. They both agree that the
society is made up by different parts and those various parts make the society stable and
functional.
Comte changed the view of society and the view of science. Comtes philosophy is
based on three stages. The first stage is theological stage, the second is metaphysical
stage and the last one is positive stage. The most influential theory is positive stage,
which is based on scientific method. It is independent of religion. While in the
metaphysical stage, the scientific and religious worldview com-exist in order to make
sense of the world. The positive philosophy illustrates that society, like nature,
operates under its own set of laws and should be studied the same way we study nature:
with science. It is hard to find relevant philosophy between Comte and the video
directly. However, the term sociology is from Comte, which means the study of society as
a science. After French revolution, Comte realized how influential that people could
gather together of their willingness to choose their leader. Maybe that is why girls and
boys are naturally become into two different groups due to their different initial
willingness. That is how Comte may make conclusion on this video.
However, Marx- Engels insisted in conflict theory. Marx believed that the history
of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. Freeman and slave,
patrician and plebeian, lord and serf, guildmaster and journeyman, in a word, oppressor
and oppressed. Marx held belief that the society consists of two opposite parts. They
conflict with each other and fight against each other. For the video, we can say that boys
and girls are opposite parts of society since they are so different from each other and they
act oppositely. However, I see the video more like two sides of balance not opposites.
Although boys and girls are different, they are not against each other. Marxs idea may be
discrepant with the main idea of the video. The video does not obviously prove that how
balance the difference between boys and girls remain the society stable. However, I can
analyze the part that when two girls see each other wear same clothing, they turn against
to each other but when boys see each other wear same clothing, they do not care that
much and still can be friendly. If they were a boy and a girl wearing same clothing, what
they would act. I believe that there can be the start of a romantic story or the end of
conversation. The ending can be the boy and the girl become a one like a couple or the
boy and the girl do not have any reaction and stay as two units. Therefore, when things
happen between boys and girls there are attractive element between them. Boys and girls
can never be opposites. Hence, the conclusion of Marxs philosophy does not support the
idea of the video.
