Well Planner

The Well Planner's skills fall between technical and engineering as a type of Engineering Technologist.
The Well Planner will utilize various engineering software packages to design and maintain well paths, in
mathematical and graphical formats that will assist the drilling engineers and geologist. The Well Planner,
with experience, will be able to use advanced software packages to perform: Anti-Collision Analysis,
Torque & Drag Reports, Hydraulics and BHA Analysis to optimize drilling parameters. Well Planners must
be able to work with minimal supervision.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Use information provided by the customer to create a well plan.

Plot and prepare graphic representation to provide to customer and rig locations.

Receive surveys from Directional Drillers and enter them into the computer to provide plan vs
actual comparative reports and compile end-of-well reports for the customer.

Maintain information from proposal to end-of-well.

Lead pre-planning meeting with customers.

Perform various other duties and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical
constraints of the job.

Ability to be on-call 24/7, nights, weekends, holidays, for extended periods of time.

Communication effective speaking (speaking with supervisors and coworkers; speaking with
clients in person and via phone) writing concisely (composing emails to discuss technical topics;
clearly documenting and validating job information) reporting information (maintaining perpetual
reports; creating useful reports to transfer and understand information).

Research & Planning identifying problems, imagining alternatives, gathering information,


solving problems, extracting and analyzing information.

Organizing & Managing handling details (assuring that vital information has been collected;
verifying data to assure complete accuracy) coordinating task (breaking projects down into pieces
and prioritizing them; describing task details) decision making with others.

Workplace Implementing decisions, cooperating, being punctual, managing time, attention to


details, meeting goals, accepting responsibility, setting and meeting deadlines.

Technical/Functional Proficiency Is proficient with Microsoft Office programs and can


navigate and develop spreadsheets, presentations, and documents. Comfortable with technology
and can easily learn new skills; assesses own strengths and weaknesses; pursues training and
development opportunities; strive to continuously build knowledge and skills; share expertise with
others.

Customer Service Manages difficult or emotional customer employee situations; solicits


customer employee feedback and assists the department in development of plans to improve
service; anticipates and provides solutions to meet customer needs, giving high priority to
customer satisfaction; responds to requests for service and assistance; meets commitments.

Attention to Detail Performs tasks while focusing on all aspects of the task no matter how
small; checks all processes and task for accuracy; demonstrates vigilance in assuring
completeness and accuracy of all work.

SPECIFIC TRAINING & SKILLS:

Good technical, computer and mathematic skills are top desired skills

Mathematics Geometry and geometric equations, basic algebra skills

Excel/Word/Power Point/Outlook maintain and create spreadsheets and graphs; write letters,
create presentations in written and graphic formats

Proficiency with Compass, DSWE, StressCheck- ability to perform planning and report generation
functions

Adobe Acrobat convert document into PDF format; modify, convert and extract data from PDF
files

Geographic Data understanding surface elevation, local, map and geographic coordinate
systems

QUALIFICATIONS:

General oilfield drilling, MWD/LWD, directional drilling or mud logging experience are highly
preferred

Proficiency with Compass, DSWE, StressCheck ability to perform planning and report
generation functions or dedication and willingness to learn

10+ years of oilfield experience required, with CAD or no CAD skill/experience

Strong verbal and written skills, must be able to interface with customers and fellow employees
professionally and in a timely manner

Multi-tasking ability
