Organizational Background
GREDO is an indigenous local NGO. Non-profit non-partial, non- political and voluntary
organization based in Baidoa. To reach the most affected grass-root communities in Bay and
Bakool regions and lower shabelle effectively and efficiently, the necessity of local partnership
in relief program appeared. Responding to the partnership need, a group of Somali intellectuals
and well-wishers initiated in December 1992 a local non-governmental organization called
Gargaar Relief and Development Organization (GREDO) the organization has implemented
during these period different projects including relief and emergency programs and later
improved into rehabilitation and developmental programs.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION


The Nutrition Officer) will have overall responsibility for the delivery of static and outreach mobile
nutrition services in designated project areas. S/he will fulfill the tasks outlined below in collaboration
with other nutrition staffs, community, health committees while ensuring maximum community
participation in the delivery of these services.

Responsibilities
Coordinate and functionally manage the planning and direction of Gredos Nutrition activities
under his/her jurisdiction areas within operation areas
Work in collaboration with Field manager, Logistician to provide technical support to all
Nutrition team members and health committees in project sites.
Plan and implement the specified nutrition components in the program portfolio in close
collaboration with medical and non-medical personnel.
Promote community participation in all nutrition promotion activities. Improve community
awareness of the malnutrition status while further educating on best food and diets (including
the importance of IYCF)
Identify staff training needs in the program and advice essential structural adjustment needed
for effective program delivery. On-job training for staff in the nutrition outreach and static
centers, Organizes staff training on appropriate nutrition training and capacity developments:

IMAM, CMAM, and IYCF ,Ensure that supplies needed by programs under his/her supervision
are properly managed while producing good consumption plans.
Constantly monitor the nutrition needs in the project area and propose appropriate action in
collaboration with the nutrition Manager
Participate in needs assessment to establish future nutrition programs
Participate in the writing of timely and accurate monthly reports in collaboration with Field
Coordinator
Participation in joint primary health care planning in collaboration with other NGOs and local
health authorities
Ensures good standards in the delivery of preventive and nutrition promoting services
Supervision and monitoring of nutrition activities and programmes both at facility and outreach
levels
Carry out any other responsibilities assigned by the nutrition Manager
As GREDO is working in a constantly changing humanitarian aid environment, reasonable
specific work duties may be requested that may not fit into the above job description, but which
will help promote overall programs goals and aims.

Personal/Professional Requirements Essential


Qualified nurse with experience in Nutrition
Relevant training on food and diets, supplementary feeding programs is an added advantage.
Previous 2-3 years experience in an INGO/NGO with a similar portfolio.
Excellent management and personnel skills to enable the motivation, encouragement and
participation of national health team members
Ability to work with a team while developing and implementing programs.
Ability to assess evolving nutrition needs quickly and calmly under pressure as required.
Excellent communication skills, with good spoken and written English and experience in report
writing.
Good computer skills to allow reporting and representation.
