Ahora que nos hemos familiarizado con los pronombres personales, podemos
conjugar verbos y formar frases; por ejemplo:
I am fine Estoy bien
They eat steak Ellos comen bistek
It is good - Es Bueno
Nota: En ingls no es muy comn omitir el pronombre personal como en espaol.
Nunca se diceam fine en vez de I am fine.
To Have

You have t tienes, usted tiene
He has l tiene
She has ella tiene
It has tiene
We have nosotros/as tenemos
You have ustedes tienen, vosotros/as tenis
They have ellos/as tienen
Ejemplos:
I have a new car Tengo un carro nuevo
You have enough food Tienes suficiente comida
We have three children Tenemos tres hijos
They have a lot of work Tienen mucho trabajo (a lot mucho, bastante)
The house has three bedrooms La casa tiene tres habitaciones
It (the house) has three bedrooms Ella (la casa) tiene tres habitaciones.
6. EL VERBO TO DO - 'HACER'
I make yo hago
You make t haces, usted hace
He makes l hace
She makes ella hace
It makes hace
We make nosotros/as hacemos
You make ustedes hacen, vosotros hacis
They make ellos/as hacen
Ejemplos:
I make a cake Hago una torta
She makes me laugh Ella me hace rer
We make wooden toys Hacemos juegos de madera (wood significa madera
pero woodensignifica de madera)
They make too much noise Ellos hacen demasiado ruido
7. LOS VERBOS TO GO Y TO COME: IR Y VENIR
En este caso es muy claro que el libro est sobre la mesa por la palabra on. En
ingls no se puede decir en este caso que The book is in the table, porque
significara que el libro est dentro la mesa.
3. Ejemplo No. 3:
My husband is at the office Mi esposo est enla oficina
My husband is in the office Mi esposo est enla oficina
Las dos frases tienen la misma traduccin en espaol pero tienen un significado
ligeramente diferente. My husband is at the office implica que mi esposo est
en el lugar del trabajo pero no necesariamente dentro del cuarto de su oficina. My
husband is in the office implica que mi esposo est dentro del cuarto de la
oficina.
Un ejemplo parecido es:
I am at the theatre Estoy en el teatro (Esto significa que estoy en el lugar del
teatro)
I am in the theatre Estoy en el teatro (Esto significa que estoy dentro del teatro)
Es un caso parecido cuando se refiere al aeropuerto, al cine, al hospital, al parque,
etc.Sin embargo hay algunos casos especiales, que se mencionan a continuacin.
HABLANDO DE LA PLAYA
We are at the beach Estamos en la playa (Estamos en el lugar de la playa, no
necesariamente en la parte de la arena)
We are on the beach Estamos en la playa (Estamos en la arena de la playa, no
solo en el lugar)
Siempre se dice on the beach nunca in the beach.
HABLANDO DE CIUDADES O PASES
Ejemplo: Are you working now or are you still in school? Trabajas (tienes
trabajo) ahora o todava ests estudiando?

El ingls tiene un slo verbo: to know, para los dos significados: saber y
conocer.
SABER EN INGLS
She knows how to fix this type of car Ella sabe como arreglar este tipo de
carro
They dont know how to speak German Ellos no saben hablar alemn
Is Mr Johnson in the office? I dont know El Seor Johnson est en la
oficina? No lo s
CONOCER EN INGLS
I know her mother Conozco a su madre
Do you know this city well? Conoces bien esta ciudad?
I dont know anyone here No conozco a nadie aqu
El verbo conocer tambin tiene otros significados en ingls dependiendo del
contexto.
They must park the car on the other side Deben estacionar el carro al otro
lado
Otro verbo que se utiliza en la misma forma quemust es to have to Tener
que.
I have to clean the house today Tengo que limpiar la casa hoy
He has to tell us something l tiene que decirnos algo
She has to leave tonight Ella tiene que irse esta noche
They have to find the entrance Ellos tienen que encontrar la entrada
'MAY' Y 'MIGHT'
May y might tambin funcionan como can ymust pero en vez de expresar
algo definitivo, expresan una posibilidad. Podran corresponder a: es posible tal
vez o quizs; para indicar algo que posiblemente podra pasar.
I may/might go out with my friends tonight Quizs salga con mis amigos esta
noche
He may/might fall asleep during the movie- Es posible que l se duerma
durante la pelcula
We may/might not want to spend the whole day with them Tal vez no
queramos pasar todo el da con ellos
They may/might not be at school today Es posible que no estn en la escuela
hoy

A continuacin podr encontrar una lista con laconjugacin de la gran mayora de
los verbos irregulares en ingls. No existe una regla en particular que determine
cules verbos son irregulares o de qu manera cambian, as que simplemente se

16. Desear o Necesitar en Ingls
Hay expresiones que tienen que ver con algo que queremos o que necesitamos, y
que podran ser confusas. Aqu tenemos algunos ejemplos para aclarar el
significado de estas expresiones.
VERBO 'TO WANT', VERBO 'TO NEED'
To want desear, querer
To need necesitar
En esta frase, el objeto directo es the steak porque es el que se afecta por el
verbo to eat (comer). Se puede reemplazar el objeto directo con un pronombre,
de la siguiente manera:
George eats it George lo come

Veamos algunos ejemplos para entender cmo se usan los pronombres del objeto
en ingls.

Es muy comn comparar cosas utilizando adjetivos, por ejemplo: Ese coche
es pequeo pero el otro esms pequeo. stos se llaman adjetivos comparativos.
Tambin vale la pena aprender la forma superlativa de los adjetivos con relacin a
su forma comparativa, ya que estn relacionadas. Por ejemplo en el caso del
adjetivo 'pequeo', 'ms pequeo' es la forma comparativa y el ms pequeo es
la forma superlativa.
REGLAS PARA FORMAR EL COMPARATIVO Y EL SUPERLATIVO EN INGLS
1. En ingls, a la mayora de los adjetivos se les aade un er al final para formar
el comparativo yest para formar el superlativo.
My apartment is small Mi apartamento es pequeo
My brothers apartment is smaller El apartamento de mi hermano es ms

2. Si el adjetivo termina en e, slo se aade una rpara el comparativo y 'st' para
el superlativo:

Nota: El adjetivo nice en el ingls coloquial tambin significa bueno o lindo. Por
ejemplo:

3. Algunos adjetivos que terminan en consonante, duplican la consonante final
para formar el comparativo y el superlativo, as:

En los adjetivos de arriba es posible usar more(ms) y most (el ms) para
formar el comparativo y el superlativo como por ejemplo:'thirsty' (sediento), 'more
thirsty' (ms sediento) y'most thirsty' (el ms sediento); pero esto no es muy
comn y suena raro. Es mejor usar las formas dadas en las tablas de arriba.
5. Algunos adjetivos sin embargo, no tienen una forma diferente para el
comparativo o el superlativo, y se debe usar more y most para formarlos. En
general son adjetivos que tienen ms de dos slabas o terminan
en ful, ing, ous, ive, ish, al,able y ed.

Para comparar dos cosas que pueden tener diferentes valores o el mismo valor
tenemos tres estructuras:
1. Comparativo + 'than' = Ms + adjetivo + que
My house is bigger than my sisters house Mi casa es ms grande que la
casa de mi hermana
This film is worse than the previous one Esta pelcula es peor que la anterior
Johns car is more expensive than ours El carro de John es ms caro que el
nuestro
You look more beautiful today than you did last night Te ves ms bella hoy
que anoche
This project is harder/more difficult than the last one Este proyecto es ms
difcil que el ltimo
Nota: Es poco comn utilizar una estructura como:
This project is less hard/less difficult than the last one - Este proyecto es
menos difcil que el ltimo
Es ms correcto decir:
This project is easier than the last one Este proyecto es ms fcil que el
ltimo
2. 'As' + adjetivo + 'as' = tan + adjetivo + como
I am as hungry as you are Estoy tan hambriento como t
This building is as big as the other one Este edificio es tan grande como el
otro
This problem is as complicated as that one Este problema es tan complicado
como ese otro
This chair is as comfortable as that one Esta silla es tan cmoda como la otra

3. 'Not' + 'as' + adjetivo + 'as' = no tan + adjetivo + como
She is not as pretty as her sister Ella no es tan bonita como su hermana
This restaurant is not as cheap as I thought Este restaurante no es tan barato

This dish is not as tasty as I expected Este plato no es tan sabroso como yo
esperaba
She is not as beautiful in real life Ella no es tan bella en la vida real
