Information for Graduands

INFORMATION FOR
GRADUANDS

SEATING

2.1

There will be reserved seating for VIPs and


staff.
Seats for DPhil, MPhil, Masters and First
Class graduands will be arranged in
alphabetical order per Faculty in the front
rows. All other graduands to be capped en
masse will have their seats reserved in
Faculty order. Your are required to be seated
by 0830 hours.

PURCHASE OF ACADEMIC
DRESS

Academic dress will be collected from the


Faculty of Education after payment of $75
graduation fee.

GUESTS

5.1

You are allowed two guests only. PLEASE


NOTE THAT WE HAVE LIMITED SEATS FOR
GRADUAND GUESTS.
Admission to the Graduation venue will be
strictly by TICKET ONLY. You should collect
your two guest tickets from your FACULTY
OFFICE from Monday 15 August 2016.

DATE/TIME/VENUE

The Ceremony will be held at the UZ Athletics


Stadium on THURSDAY 29 SEPTEMBER 2016,
starting at 0900 hours and is expected to last for 3
hours.

Guests of graduands may sit in any of the


seats designated Graduand Guests but
NOT in the sections RESERVED for
graduands or staff or VIPs. These sections
will be clearly signposted.
Please arrive early to avoid any
inconveniences.

PHOTOGRAPHS

6.1

Please note that, except for the authorised


University of Zimbabwe Photographer, no
other photographers will be allowed entry
into the stadium. All Guests are advised not
to bring cameras or photographic
equipment into the venue.
Once the ceremony has started, the only
persons allowed into the area in front of the
main platform will be the Official University
photographers, television crews and other
officials. The Zimbabwe Republic Police and
UZ Security personnel will be on high alert
to enforce this requirement.

DRESS

Men should wear a suit, preferably dark, with a


plain white shirt and a dark tie.
Women should wear a long-sleeved white blouse
and a dark skirt (a dark jacket may be worn over
the blouse if desired).
All graduands must wear the full Academic Dress,
i.e. gown, appropriate hood and cap.

7.

PRESENTATION PROCEDURES

7.1

Each graduand must sit in the section


reserved for his/her programme as directed
by the Faculty Administrator.
The ceremony will start with a fanfare by
the ZRP Band.

The audience will rise;


Members of Academic Staff, Senate and
Council will enter in procession followed
by the Platform Party;
Once the full procession has been
completed, the congregation, led by the
Choir, will sing, Ngaikomborerwe Nyika
yeZimbabwe (Kalibusiswe iLizwe
leZimbabwe);
This will be followed by reading the
University Prayer;
The Chancellor will formally constitute
the congregation as a graduation
ceremony;
The Vice-Chancellor will then deliver his
welcome address.
Deans will present all postgraduate and first
class undergraduate graduands to the
Chancellor for individual capping.
Degrees for other graduands will be formally
conferred by the Chancellor en masse. When
your Programme has been announced by the
Deputy Registrar (Academic), you rise and
doff to the Chancellor. You then put on your
cap and sit down.

REHEARSAL

Please attend rehearsals on Wednesday 28


September 2016, starting at 1430hours at the
Athletics Stadium.

ISSUE OF DEGREE
CERTIFICATES AND
TRANSCRIPTS

Degree certificates and transcripts will be issued


from Faculty Offices after the Ceremony. To collect
your certificate and transcript, you must produce
acceptable identification (student identity card) and
