At this stage of my life I am not yet totally myself as so many experiences and people in my life have
shaped and molded my persona , but inside me there are hopes and aspirations and I am going to
be what I make of my dreams.
I am told that I am artistic, imaginative and have a sense of aesthetics and beauty. Yes I am a
dreamer, an adjuster, a person who tries to make things and situations more acceptable and more
beautiful. But I am equally a thinker, an analyzer and so tend to go deeper than the superficial and
often I go by practicalities and intuition before reaching results that please me.Writing songs has been
a medium of expressing my feelings and thoughts. Through the lyrics I create pictures that capture
emotions. I love music. Apart from words and sounds my vivid imagination would create mental
graphics. When transferred to paper I thought, Not bad. So sketching became an outlet for me.
Doodling, painting and just letting a pencil run creatively over paper excited me. This naturally led
to experiments with the camera. With photographs, I began to put my stamp and slant onto hitherto
mundane shots.
College and its diverse experiences brought out a different dimension to my personality. Being
originally from Mumbai the shift to Gandhinagar was sudden and unexpected. I had no idea what
I could expect from the coming years, but even more of how it would affect my growth in the field
I chose. College has exposed me to people and situations across other sections of society. It taught
me independence and responsibility and heightened my awareness of self. I feel like I can adapt
and that is something that I didnt know before but circumstances and new opportunities taught me
a new strength. Having a family background of commerce it was daring of me to choose Arts and
Humanities. But my strongest supporter has always been my mother. When I wanted to be painter
she encouraged me and bought the paints, when I wanted to be a photographer she gave me a
camera albeit after a year of begging. The very thought of always having her to lean on is my biggest
comfort. My father and brother have also been equally supportive, though they rib me a lot, criticize
my work and this helps me to constructively improve my efforts. To be honest, I have never faced any
discomfort within the four walls of my house as my family is always there to stand by me and help me
make my choices on my own terms.
In college I moved beyond this comfort zone to forge my mark. There is some element of trepidation
and fear but a steely resolve and much self-belief. At NIFT, I have learnt skills and encountered ideas
I didnt know I was capable of. A strive from improvement has always been through my nerves and
that is one of my strongest points. My work has always been about pushing myself, the way I am
is simplistic and safe, but the work I do feels like my efforts to break out of that comfort zone. The
portfolio is a fragment of what I can do, if given a chance, I will push harder and further and keep
growing. So, to conclude, I am yet to settle on this version of myself, I hope to embark on a bigger
journey and keep learning.

Pastel Overdose

Pastels are the colors of the subtle feminine beauty. The theme aims to focus at the
elegance brought out the color and the quirkiness added with the silhouette.

The inspiration of the silhouette of the garment

has come from the famous bridesmaid
sweet heart neck line. A typical picturesque
bridesmaid dress was kept in mind while
making this garment. At the same time the
client profile and the overdose of quirkiness
was a factor in deciding the length and fit of
the dress.

Garment details:
A pastel blue princess paneled fit and flare
sweet heart neckline dress with nude lace straps
and neck finishing with a lace bow in the centre
front midriff.

Organic Structuralism

Organic structuralism depicts a paneled

structured dress with a sleek fit and a marbling
print. The garment is made keeping in mind an
independent, confident woman who would ride
an overcoat on her shoulders and showcase
this semi-corporate look.
Balenciagas 2013 A/W collection was used as
a source of inspiration for this theme.

Marbling in its simplest form is work of art. Its a complete contrast, the rigid marble to the
fluidity of the paint. The theme captures this sense of organic fluidity contained structured
marble vessel.

Garment details:

A drop shoulder dress with shoulder pads and

unsymmetrical paneling. The sharp edges o the
drop shoulder cap sleeves give the garment a
structured look. It has a side seam pocket to the
right. The semi enhancement by the shoulder
pads makes the frame broader depicting
confidence and independence.

Get busy Get dizzy

A print on print mania which aims to create a print clash at the same time making it
looks chic. The theme focused on helping pair prints along with other prints. In this
we discovered primary and secondary prints which can be paired together. This look
is for the bold and the experimental. The play of three prints in one look will get you
dizzy.

Garment details:

Reversible kimono jacket A reversible kimono jacket with a black and white primary
and secondary print with an extended back and fitted sleeves. The two prints aim to
cater to the brave and weak. For people less confident to pull of the white and black
geometric print with the jumpsuit can always reverse the jacket and go for a subtle
black print.
Jumpsuit The primary print jumpsuit makes for the entire highlight in the look. From
the back cut out to the paneled fit the jumpsuit gives a finished look. The side seam
pocket gives functionality to the garment. Corsetry has been used in the making of
the torso, which also gives the garment stability and an incredible fit.

Monochrome
A monochromatic object or image has colors in shades
of limited colors or hues. The theme chosen represents
the singularity of color and the beauty of black and white.
The inspiration in the theme has been the solidarity, self
embroidery.

A bohemian inspired, short self embroidered tasseled kimono

jacket.

Embroidery details:

The embroidery used is a chikan kari style inspiration through

kasuti embroidery stitches. Motif inspiration is from typical kasuti
embroidery.

Mitering is a popular technique used in menswear and womens wear
formals. Its a simplistic and technical method of garment construction
in which the fabric print (Stripes, checks, etc.) is stitched in a manner
where in the print shows a continuity.

Garment details:
A formal yet simple A-line dress. Mitering has
been done in the centre front, centre back and
the side seams. The armhole and neckline have
been finished by combined facing. A side seam
concealed zipper holds the simplistic look of the
dress. Through mitering a zigzag pattern has
been created all over the garment showcasing
continuity.

Garment details:
Mitering has been done on a womens waist coat
with two flap pockets and a single lip pocket.
From the darts to the pockets continuity in
stripes has been maintained. The flaps have
been mitered as well in attempts to not break
symmetry. The garment has been finished with
combined facing for a clean and formal look.

Garment details:

Mitering has been done all over the shirt in all

of its parts and pieces. Mitered components
are stated in the garment breakdown.
Garment breakdown:
Convertible collar; back yoke, sleeves, cuff,
diamond placket (cuff), centre front placket,
and basic front and back.

Mitering of checks:
A basic womens formal shirt. Mitering
has been done on a checks fabric where
in the basic pattern making and garment
construction has been applied.

The Earthen Bride

The Earthen bride represents elegance and

simplicity in gown construction. The theme
represents an effortless beauty taken straight
from nature itself. The beauty of nature is its
uncomplicatedness, its roots being natural, divine
and simple. The theme also captures the sense of
the wedding ceremony.

Garment details:
Corsetry and draping are the highlight of this garment. The
garments has an eight paneled mid waist corset with four
layers in it including the two layers of lining, main fabric
and felt. The neckline has been kept straight and simple in
accordance to the theme. The corset is attached to a A-line
skirt with left side knee high slit.
Another layer of georgette is draped on the corset and skirt
with the left side pleated for a feminine look completed with
a knee high slit.

Sway

A feminine flow, an elegant sway. The garment

tries to capture a slight drift causing a magnificent
motion. The construction and ideation aims to focus on the look of the garment in movement.

Garment construction:

A scalloped neckline and back portray the oceanic

motion. The high waist torso with cap sleeves is
completed with cupping inside. The skirt is extensively gathered and joined to the top. Completed
with side seam fastening (Concealed zipper) and
a back strap hook, this garment demonstrates the
theme to a tic.

Dolled up

Garment details:
A typical baby doll silhouette combined with
a contrasting cuff and peter pan collar is a
display of a real life doll. The theme tries to
bring highlight the empire line attachment of
a circular skirt worn generally by toy dolls. The
garment is showcased in a quirky light of enjoyment felt by children playing with toys. One
of the first knitted garments made, it enraptures
the quality of the fabric like its fit and the fall.

The autumn forest is a mist. Its a blur of colors and motifs. The earthy elements of this
mood are the inspiration for the embroidery swatches. The elements taken from the

Motif inspiration: Barren autumn tree

Stitches used: Herringbone and stem stitch
Color inspiration: A deep red and rustic yellow have been used to depict the barren tree with
all of its leaves shed out onto a black base. The colors bring to highlight the beautiful form
of the tree.

The embroidery of inspiration is Ahir embroidery and the stitches used are : Stem stitch,
Herringbone stitch and Chain stitch.

Color inspiration: A deep red and a bright orange inner fill bring
out the raw mood through the leaf. The stem is kept brown and
simple. The background is a faded grey keeping the melancholy
of the season.

leaf.
