ThevideoIchosetoanalyzeIfoundfromtheFilmsOnDemandDatabaseisGirls:
EnteringtheTeenYears.Thevideobeginsbyintroducingfivedifferentgirlsbetweentheages
ofelevenandsixteen.Atthebeginningofthevideomostofthegirlsarenotyetintheirteens
butwithinthetwoyearsofthedocumentarythegirlsshouldbeintheirearlyteenswhichisthe
wholepointofthevideotoseehowthegirlsarementallyandphysicallychangingwhenentering
theirteensandhowsocietyisinfluencingtheirjudgement.Thefirsttwogirlsareidenticaltwins
namedRebeccaandJessica,both11yearsold.Theirpersonalitiesareseentobeverymuchalike
startingfromthewaytheywalktothewalktheyspeakandmostcommonlytheywaytheylook.
Thegirlsbegintodreadthattheyaregettingolderespeciallysincewhentheygobacktoschool
theyareputindifferentclassrooms.Itisthenshowedhowmuchthegirlsbegintohavedifferent
personalitiesafterbeingindifferentclassrooms.Theenvironmentineachclassisdifferentso
theiropinionsonthingslikebrasbegintobedifferent.ThethirdgirlintroducedisnamedAlex,
sheisatenyearsoldbutherbodyactsasifshewasateenageralready.Alexsbodybeganto
growfasterthannormalwhenshewasonlysevenyearsold.Shebeginstohavebadinsecurities
overherbodysincesheisnotlikeothergirls.ItisrevealedthatAlexsbodybegantogrowfaster
thannormalbecauseinherpastshewentthroughmanystrugglesthataffectedherandresultedin
herbodytogrowfaster.Shelaterbeginstogetmedicaltreatmenttohelpherbodygobacktothe
averagebodysize.ThefourthgirlisClaudia,sheisgoesthroughsimilarsituationslikeAlex

becauseofherinsecuritiesoverherbody.Claudiawas12yearsoldwhenshebeganfilmingand
throughouttheage12through14sheisseentobegoingthroughmanyinsecuritiesbecauseshe
doesnothavethesamestrugglesasothergirls.Claudiaisaballerinadancer,assheisgrowing
herbodybeginstochangeandsheisnotabletomaintainherbalanceaswell.Assheisgetting
oldersheismuchtallerthantheothergirlswhichmakesitharderforhertodothesimple
routinescomparedtotheothergirlswhoaremuchshorter.Thelastgirlis14yearold
Sharmaine.Inherdocumentaryitisshownthatasshegetsolderherattitudeisaproblemthatis
affectingherandthepeoplearoundher.Sheisconstantlyhavingargumentswithherfamily
memberswhichisrevealedtobearesulttothechangingperiodofherlife.
TheparadigmmostrepresentedinthevideoisInteractionisttheory.TheInteractionist
theoryisabouttheresultsfromsociety'severydayinteractionswithotherswhichinthevideothe
majorityofthegirlsproblemsinvolvedtheinfluencesofotherpeopleintheirlivesopinionsthat
madetheminsecureormadethemthinkdifferentlythanbefore.IchosethistheorybecauseI
thinkitinvolvestheselfwhichthemajorityofthegirlscanrelatetoespeciallywithCharles
HortonCooleytheoryoflookingglassself.Inthethreephasesofthelookingglassselfthe
girlsseemtoallgothroughespeciallysinceitisshownthatthegirlsaregoingthrough
insecuritiesastheyaregettingolder.
AugusteComteviewstowardsthevideowouldbefocusingonthenatureandchange
societyisdoingtoinfluencethegirls.Sincesomeofthegirlswerehavinginsecuritiesof
themselvesComtewouldlookforasolutiontohelpbalancethesocialchangethatotherpeople
areinfluencingthatcausesthegirlstohaveinsecurities.

KarlMarxviewsonthevideowouldprobablyfocusmostonSharminebecauseher
attitudewasthemainprobleminherdocumentary.Marxwouldprobablywanttoseehowthe
familyistakingcontrolofherattitudeandwhatresourcesareneededtohelpstoptheproblem.
MarxcanalsofocusonAlexbecauseshewasalsohavingproblemswithhermoodassaidbyher
mom.
EmileDurkheimwouldanalyzesocialphenomenonofsuicideaswellassocialordersohis
viewswouldfocusonwhattheinsecuritiesthatthegirlshavecanleadupto.Assaidinthe
video,whenhavingreallybadinsecuritiesbecauseofbullyingcanleaduptoasuicide.In
Claudiascaseshewouldntfeelasifshewasdoingherbestbecauseshewasstillgrowingso
Durkheimwouldanalyzewhathecallsanomie.
