Assignment 8: Comprehensive Instructional Plan

Comprehensive Instructional Plan
Client Name: Rueben Pitts
Client Place of Employment: Turner Middle School
Client Email Address: rueben.pitts@douglas.k12.ga.us
The setting of this lesson will take place in the 6th grade Social Studies classroom.
Student learners participating in the assessment and performance task are 27 6th grade
students with ages ranging from 10-13 years old. This is a group of mixed ability
consisting of both male and female students. 2 students are currently in the SST process
for potential special education testing. 5 students are considered advanced, 3 are gifted,
and 4 are English Language Learners, and 13 are considered average to high average in
terms of academic ability and progress. The ethnic demographic represented is White,
African American, Pacific Islander and Hispanic.

A Description of the Re-designed lesson

Mr. Pitts is seeking new and creative ways to engage students in higher order thinking.
His content requires students to master several thousands of years of history throughout
one school year. Though there are limited resources for his content area, Mr. Pitts is
optimistic in his search for new strategies and implementation of ideas. My
comprehensive instructional plan can be used to build student skills in the critical area of
reading comprehension. This infographic and be referred to in the classroom for an
extended amount of time, providing students with a visual aid that is both instructional
and informative. This highly functioning method of communicating information is a vital
tool for 21st century learners and classrooms. Posters and infographics can be positive
constants in a classroom. Even when curriculum topics change, students can always refer
to previous concepts for the purpose of lifelong learning.

Methods Used to Evaluate the Lesson

The instructional design process I followed to develop this infographic assignment is the
ADDIE Model. A (analysis of the goal/objective). I wanted to provide both a visual and
informative reference tool to support student and teacher implementation. D (design the
flow/graphic), D (Develop) this deliverable in an attractive and informative medium such
as an infographic. I (implement) I provide succinct explanation of each step that was easy

to read and easy to understand. I also shared the purpose for each step in terms of helping
reach the strategy objective.

This is a formative guideline and rubric that will enable students to understand required
components of their eBook project as well as allow for the teacher to provide authentic
and constructive feedback for next steps or improvements that may need to be added on
future eBooks or similar presentation type projects.

Standards
I will address the ACRL Visual and Literacy Competency Standards through this
assignment by providing students with the following visual learning opportunities:
1. Creativity and innovation
Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative
products and processes using technology.
a. Apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes
2. Communication and collaboration
Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively,
including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of
others.
a. Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of
digital environments and media
b. Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety
of media and formats
6. Technology Operations and Concepts
Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and
operations

Reflection
Collaboration is what effective teachers do. I appreciated the opportunity to give insight
to a fellow teacher. The collaboration was an opportunity for me to understand the
interdisciplinary implications and possibilities of technology. There has been nothing to
impact the classroom quite like technology has. I want to always provide students with
meaningful skills, exposure and experiences that can help them to be better global
citizens as opposed to spectators.
