Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences often
posts advertisements for student jobs both

However, due to the intense workload at RhineWaal University of Applied Sciences first-year
students, in particular, are strongly advised to
dedicate their full attention to their studies. In
later semesters, students will have a better idea
of how to manage working and studying at the
same time. This also provides a realistic
timeframe to acquire at least basic proficiency
in German while studying full-time.

Arrival support

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is

accessible from numerous international airports,
the closest of which are Amsterdam, Dsseldorf,
Cologne/Bonn, and Weeze. The university does
not offer regular shuttle or airport pick-up
service, but both Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort are
easy and affordable to reach by public
transportation from each airport.
If you anticipate any problems or difficulties
upon arrival, please contact our International
Office or Welcome Centre so that we can help
you in best planning your arrival.
Services and support
for international
students
Our International Office and Welcome Centre
are committed to helping international students
with planning their arrival, securing a flat or
room, or tackling important administrative
issues such as registering for health insurance,
opening a bank account, applying for a student
visa, deciphering paperwork etc.
The Welcome Centre also has student mentors
who can give first-hand tips and advice on
adjusting to life as a student or living in
Germany. They offer a peer-based contact point
for students' personal and social issues and can
direct students to the right person or office for
their specific issues. The Welcome Centre also
promotes student life at the university by
organising trips and sightseeing excursions to
destinations all around the region as well as a
range of large and small scale social events for
students, for example "Freshtival", the
university's week-long orientation event for firstsemester undergraduates.
Accommodation
Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences
strongly urges you make accommodation
arrangements before your arrival. The university
does not have its own residence halls, but the
student services Dsseldorf maintain
dormitories in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort with one,
two or three rooms for rent. Prices start at 220
EUR per month. Availability of rooms in the
student services dormitories is limited and
subject to a waiting list, so it's important to
register as soon as possible. Please note that a
security deposit of three months' rent is also
required.
Most of our students choose instead to share a
flat with fellow students through a private
landlord. There are a number of popular online
portals for finding a flat in Germany, for
example,
http://www.wg-gesucht.de [http://www.wg-gesuc
ht.de]
. Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences also

maintains its own list of available flats and

rooms for students. Thanks to the flexibility of
the "Semesterticket", students can live in Kleve
and Kamp-Lintfort or in one of the many cities
and towns that are connected to them by bus
and/or train. For more information and helpful
tips on finding a flat, please see our website:

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is a
young and modern university with two campus
locations in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort. Centrally
located in the Lower Rhine region of Germany,
Rhine-Waal University is located a stone's throw
from the Dutch border, roughly halfway between
the Dutch cities of Nijmegen and Arnhem to the
north and the major urban centres Dsseldorf
and Cologne to the south.
Our founding goal in 2009 was to build an
innovative, interdisciplinary and international
university of applied sciences. Our commitment
to this goal has been rewarded with brilliant
success, with both the size and scope of our
university seeing rapid growth in just a few short
years. Presently, Rhine-Waal University offers
over 30 undergraduate and postgraduate
degree programmes, ranging from the natural
sciences, engineering and technology to the
social sciences. Our innovative programmes are
closely attuned to current and future needs of
industry and specifically designed to produce
graduates with expert qualifications and
demonstrable practical experience in their field
of study. 85% of our programmes are taught in
English, which attracts students from all over
the world. In fact, international students make
up a third of our student population which now
represents more than 100 different nationalities.
Rhine-Waal University takes pride in offering
first-class teaching, excellent research, a rich
network of contacts with regional and
multinational employers in industry, commerce,
and the public sector as well as a thriving
network of university partnerships abroad. New
students will enjoy our friendly and multicultural

About the city
Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences sits in
the historic and picturesque Lower Rhine region,
nestled between the Netherlands and the RhineRuhr metropolitan region, one of the largest
population centres in Europe. The university
presently maintains two campus locations in
Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort.
About Kleve:
The city of Kleve has approx. 50,000 residents
and is located some 10 km from the Dutch
border. Due to its location and history, Kleve
enjoys a unique German-Dutch cultural overlap
and has a lively, international feel to it. Its
proximity to both the Dutch cities of Nijmegen
and Arnhem and the German cities of Dsseldorf
and Cologne allows residents to benefit from
both the excitement of a big city and the safety,
comfort and cosiness of a smaller city. The
Kleve Campus sits in the heart of the city, and
the flat countryside and good infrastructure
make cycling both an effective mode of
transport for students and a fun hobby as
students will find lots of places to explore in and

around Kleve. Sights include the 11th-century

Schwanenburg Castle, Baroque-style gardens
which served as partial inspiration for Versailles,
a local wildlife park, cultural museums, and a
host of neo-classical architecture and
Grnderzeit villas. The city offers both large
department stores and local boutiques to shop
in along its central promenade, snug pubs, and
a budding nightlife scene. Students can also
enjoy a diverse range of sports activities offered
by the university and local clubs, which are free
to attend and a great way to meet new people.
About Kamp-Lintfort:
Kamp-Lintfort has a current population of about
37,000. It sits around 60 km south of Kleve, very
close to Duisburg and the heart of the bustling
Rhine-Ruhr region. Kamp-Lintfort once played an
integral role in the coal mining industry in
Germany and has seen a profound economic
resurgence in recent years with its shift towards
technology and innovation. Rhine-Waal
University of Applied Sciences's campus is
located close to the city centre and features a
brand-new student accommodation complex, so
students can easily walk to everywhere they
need to be in just a short amount of time. KampLintfort is best known for its namesake, the
nearly 900-year-old monastery Kloster-Kamp,
which to this day gives visitors the impression
that they've been transported back in time.
Apart from its historical sights, the vibrant town
is characterised by a welcoming, safe, and
neighbourly atmosphere and offers a wide range
of shops, bars, and sports activities for students.
