Table of contents
The first topic is the new license terms and process for DataPower Virtual Edition. The second
topic is how to deploy a virtual appliance.

To deploy a DataPower virtual appliance, you need to perform the steps described on this slide and
the next few slides. First, in the VMware vSphere client, select the virtual machine that you want to
create the virtual appliance on. Click File > Deploy OVF template. Then browse to the location of
the .ova file and click Next. Verify the OVF template details and click Next. Specify the name of the
virtual appliance and click Next.

Next you need to select the deployment configuration. The OVF Template comes with three
configurations. The Small configuration has four CPUs, four gigabytes of RAM and four network
interface controllers. The Standard configuration has eight CPUs, eight gigabytes of RAM and four
network interface controllers. The Enterprise configuration has 16 CPUs, 96 gigabytes of RAM and
four network interface controllers. Once you have chosen the configuration that is appropriate for
your deployment, then click Next.

Next you need to select the format for the virtual disks. Thick provisioning allocates all the disk
space at the beginning. Thin provisioning allocates minimal disk space and allows it to grow as
needed, up to the configured size, after deployment. Once you have chosen the format, click Next.

Next you need to configure the network of the virtual appliance. This step assumes that you
previously created virtual switches for handling the traffic from guests. See the VMware vSphere
Client documentation for information on creating a virtual switch.
Select the destination network from the list. Remember that each destination network is connected
to one or more vSwitches through the physical NICs of the ESX or ESXi server. Once you have
selected the destination network, click Next.

Finally, review and verify the deployment settings. Then click Finish.

When the deployment is complete, then power on the appliance and go to the Console tab. From
there, initialize the virtual appliance the same as you would a physical appliance.

Virtual Edition includes a new command line interface called show hypervisor that displays the
hypervisor name, the memory and CPU configuration of the guest, and the universally unique
identifier.

This presentation showed the deployment steps using the graphical interface. VMware also
provides a command line interface called ovftool that can be used to automate deployment.
