FLEXIBLE POSITIVE PRESSURE HABITAT

THE ULTIMATE
SAFE WORKING
ENVIRONMENT

StS
resources &
technology

THE CONCEPT
The basic concept is to provide a pressurised enclosed
habitat that allows hot work operations to be carried
out in an otherwise hazardous area.
Hot work operations are completed
safely within the habitat, as potentially
explosive gases cannot enter the
pressurised environment.
The use of flexible positive-pressure
habitats is essential in order to perform
hot work in hazardous areas without
closing down the installation or plant.

Introduced in 1999, the Flexible

Habitat System has proved to be very
successful and is today the standard
conguration for habitats.

KEY ELEMENTS AND CONTROL MEASURES

All electrical components used on a StS Flexible
Positive Pressure Habitat System are certified to
ATEX Zone 1 standards.

StS are unique in being the only company to

provide an ignition shutdown system.
All habitats provided by StS are equipped with
an ignition shutdown system that controls and
powers all heat generating tools for example
welding sets, grinders etc.
The shutdown is automatically initiated
when any one of the following occur:

Gas detection
Loss of overpressure
High temperature
Rapid temperature increase
Equipment malfunction
Emergency stop
Change in installation status

COST EFFICIENCY

StS Flexible Positive Pressure Habitat System

can be reused and easily adapted to new
locations. As a result, assembly time and costs
are signicantly reduced.

CONVENIENCE

Most locations for the potential use of habitats,

such as offshore installations, reneries etc. have
easy access to scaffolding which has a positive
impact on transport requirement.

FLEXIBILITY

The Flexi Habitat design is versatile.

The system can be tted into nearly any
space. The individual parts are easily
transported to any working location.
Habitat enclosures can be constructed
to any dimension from 2m x 2m x 2m
upwards.

resources &
technology

Flexi Habitats can be utilised and

constructed around any obstacle for
example racks, beams or pipework.
In some cases it is necessary to have an
extra safety barrier. By installing an
airlock, personnel can move in and out
of the habitat without losing overpressure
in the main enclosure. Therefore this
optimises 100% safety at all times.
