Dr. Millie Norwood

The journey of life is filled with opportunities; it is what one makes of such
opportunities that make the real difference. Millie Norwood is entering her 9th year as a
7th Grade Mathematics teacher at Oliver Middle School in Nashville, TN. In her 5th
year of teaching at OMS, Dr. Norwood was named Oliver Middle School's Teacher of
the Year and runner-up for MNPS Teacher of the Year. She graduated in May 2008
with her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education and in December 2009
with a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision, both from Lipscomb
University in Nashville, TN. In the summer of 2012, Dr. Norwood successfully
defended her dissertation at Lipscomb for her Doctorate in Education in Learning
Organizations and Strategic Change. Dr. Norwood is recognized by the State of
Tennessee as a Highly Qualified Teacher in Mathematics.
Dr. Norwood believes that all children can and want to learn. Her desire as a
teacher is that your child will reach their maximum potential in mathematics. The
only possible way for this to occur is if the student, parent, and teacher work together
in pursuing this goal. Dr. Norwood encourages you to contact her if you have any
questions or concerns at any time. You can reach her best at
Millie.Norwood@mnps.org. She will do everything in her power to ensure each childs
success.
Mr. Heyburn Underwood
Mr. Underwood will be teaching 7th Grade Cambridge English Language Arts for the
2016-2017 school year. While this will be his fifth year teaching at Oliver Middle
School, he was first introduced to the Oliver family as a student teacher. During that
experience, he found Oliver Middle to be an ideal fit to reach his goals as an educator,
and he feels very blessed to now be a part of the team. Mr. Underwood's educational
background includes a Bachelor of Arts in English literature and film studies from
DePauw University and a Master of Arts in education from Lipscomb University. He is
recognized by the State of Tennessee as a Highly Qualified Teacher in English
language arts and social studies. When he is not teaching, he enjoys spending time
with his wife, Jessica, and their dog, Gremlin. He believes that all children have the
ability to succeed, and it is his goal for all of his students to reach their full academic
potential. Mr. Underwood welcomes any questions or concerns that may arise during
the school year, and may be best contacted at Heyburn.Underwood@mnps.org
