Advanced Art Courses

Advanced courses are a continuation of the basic fundamentals learned in


Introduction to Two and Three-Dimensional art. The student can apply his/her
understanding of equipment and the fundamental theory to create more mature art
forms. The goal of the courses is to help you grow and improve your visual
communication skills. Advanced courses will examine the four domains of art
education: Art production, Art history, Aesthetics, and Art Criticism. All advanced
courses are a semester in length and the prerequisite for any advanced course is a
C+ or higher in Introduction to Two and Three-Dimensional art.

Advanced Two-Dimensional Art: This course will use a variety of 2D materials to create unique visual art. The course will explore the
techniques of different materials, proper equipment, safety, and the
four domains of art. The following materials will be explored: pencil,
colored pencil, charcoal, marker, ink, watercolor, acrylic, gouache,
collage, printmaking, and mixed media.
Advanced Three-Dimensional Art: This course will use a variety of
3-D materials to create unique visual art. The course will explore the
techniques of different materials, proper equipment, safety, and the
four domains of art. The following materials will be explored: paper
mache, ceramics, polymer clay, wire, cardboard, found object or
recycled, paper, and mixed media. All projects will be created as a
relief or 3-D sculpture.
Painting: This course will use a variety of paint materials to create
unique visual art. The course will explore the techniques of different
materials, proper equipment, safety, and the four domains of art. The
following materials will be explored: watercolor, ink, oil pastels, acrylic,
gouache, and oil. All projects will be created on paper, canvas, or found
objects.
Drawing: This course will use a variety of drawing materials to create
unique visual art. The course will explore the techniques of different
materials, proper equipment, safety, and the four domains of art. The
following materials will be explored: pencil, colored pencil, charcoal,
chalk, oil pastels, marker, ink, acrylic, and watercolor.
Ceramics: This course will use stoneware and earthenware clay to
create unique 2-D and 3-D visual art. The course will explore the
techniques, proper equipment, safety, and the four domains of art.
Jewelry: This course will use a variety of sculpture materials to create
unique wearable visual art. The Course will explore the techniques of

different materials, proper equipment, safety, and the four domains of


art. The following materials will be explored: ceramics, polymer clay,
paper, found or recycled objects, shrink plastic, wire, leather, resin,
acrylics, fabric, felt, natural objects, and mixed media.

Assignments:

1. Artists will be assigned original projects, which will allow the artist to be
creative and imaginative. The artist will have more complex problems to
solve, more personal choices, and more difficult techniques than the
introduction course.
2. Sketchbooks will also be a requirement. The sketchbook will be used for
drawings, taking notes, and a variety of other assignments. It will help you
clarify and visually develop your ideas. You will be given assignments to put in
your sketchbook on a weekly basis.
3. Art history and research projects will be assigned during the year.
4. At home projects will be assigned at the beginning of each nine weeks. They
will be due one week prior to the end of the nine weeks. A theme, idea, or
topic will be given to help direct your creativity.
5. Independent projects or advanced work is mandatory when work is completed
to the best of the artists ability. You must follow independent project
requirements and guidelines to receive grades and participation points.
6. Critiques of the artists art work and classmates art work will take place during
and after projects. Some critiques will be held in groups, as writing
assignments or as reflections.
7. All artists will be supply assistance one or more times throughout the school
year. This will be an assignment that will teach responsibility and leadership in
the classroom.
8. Assessment forms will be filled out daily or weekly as needed. This form is to
show personal growth and areas of improvement from the artist. Each artist is
expected to keep the form updated and complete.
