Brochure
Description:
This is a offset brochure about Music.

Date:
10 July 2016

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130-07
Sister Lindsey LeFevre

Program(s)/Tools:
I used Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

Objectives:
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original, new logo and use it
in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images, not
including the logo. One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign
so the text follows the cutout shape of the image. Write at least 250 words of original
copy in at least three paragraphs, headers, and subheaders. Trim for a full bleed and
print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process:
I first looked at different brochure designs to get an idea of what I wanted. After I
picked to do an offset fold, I started doing some concept drawing of a music related
logo. I also made some designs from the brochure as a whole. I looked for some
pictures that would work for what I wanted. I created all of the notes and the logo in
Illustrator. I cut out one of the photos in Photoshop, and I created the brochure as a
whole in InDesign.

Montage
Description:
This is an inspirational montage designed in Adobe Photoshop.

Date:
28 May 2016

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130-07
Sister Lindsey LeFevre

Program(s)/Tools:
I used Photoshop.

Objectives:
Use the FOCUS design process with strong focal point and flow. Unify a layout with a
consistent theme and dominant spiritual message. Learn to blend two or more images
together gradually, using masks. Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for
layout with multiple elements. Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image.
Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice). Format
type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with varying text size. Theme word(s) Select good
quality images.

Process:
I started by thinking of a short, inspirational quote I could base it off of. I really
like Abraham Lincoln, so I went with one of his. Then I thought of ways to visually
explain the quote. I came up with a couple ideas, and then I went to unsplash.com
to try and find so images that would work. I took the wooden path picture and used
it as my background. I adjusted the levels to match my other two pictures, and then
I copied it and overlaid the copy to draw more focus onto the wooden path. Next I
inserted the waterfall picture. I shrunk it to fit where I wanted it and blended it using
the brush tool and varying levels of opacity. Then I used the lasso tool with a high
amount of feather to add the guy. I also shrunk him and blended it using the brush
tool and varying levels of opacity. It was hard to see him, so I decided to use selective
color to make his shirt to a red. Then I added my quote. I gave Good One value by
making it red, increasing size and changing its font. I had a couple people critique
it and noticed that I had it the wrong dimensions and the guy looked a little weird.
To fix the dimension issue, I added more height to my canvas size, added a black
rectangle, and moved it behind everything. To make the guy look less weird, I spent a
little more time blending him with the brush tool, and I sharped him.

Web Page
Description:
A webpage written in HTML and designed in CSS for one of my logos.

Date:
26 June 2016

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130-07
Sister Lindsey LeFevre

Program(s)/Tools:
I used Windows Text Editor and Paint.

Objectives:
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side is 300
500 pixels. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it
appeals to a target audience. (Minimum of 200 words. Include rationale for colors,
appeal to target audience, design skills, etc,) Acquire a working knowledge of HTML.
(Include all required tags Doctype (provided), html, head, title, meta charset
(provided), body, h1, h2, p, ol or ul (with li tags), img, br, and a link to blog) Acquire
a working knowledge of CSS. (Customize the provided CSS provided to format the
HTML to complement the logo design. Change at least the following: The h1 text color
& h1 background color, font colors for the paragraphs & list items, the background
color, font families and add at least one css comment.) Identify hex colors to match
logo, using Photoshop color picker. Open the HTML page in a web browser and
capture a quality screen shot with .5 inch margins for printing.

Process:
I wrote out a basic html format for a website. I chose my logo that I would base the
webpage off of. I created the text that I wanted. I drafted a design on how I wanted
the layout of the webpage to be. I moved my text around and added CSS to make it go
where I wanted. I used paint to find the rgb for each color in my logo. I added those
colors throughout my webpage.

Business Card
Description:
A business card for myself as a web design and developer.

Date:
12 June 2016

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130-07
Sister Lindsey LeFevre

Program(s)/Tools:
I used Illustrator and InDesign.

Objectives:
Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign. Create a new logo to fit a company
or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs. Dont use
photos or live trace. Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card
and letterhead. Photos are okay on business card and letterhead as additional design
elements. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11, full-bleed optional, but trim only .125.
Business card should be 3.5 x 2 and printed above center on a vertical page. Apply
typography rules, keeping small copy. Keep designs simple with light watermarks and
drop shadows and plenty of white space. Include contact information: name, address,
phone, website, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone
number; no parentheses/ hyphens.

Process:
First I took some time to research what other web design and developers had for their
business card designs. I drafted out an idea that I wanted as well as a new logo for
myself. Then I created the business card and logo using Adobe Illustrator. The logo
was made using the pen tool. I got some critiques to see what I could simplify. I made
those changes to try and use value better.

Logos
Description:
Logo for the self-improvement companion, Sherwood, created in Abode Illustrator.

Date:
5 June 2016

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130-07
Sister Lindsey LeFevre

Program(s)/Tools:
I used Illustrator.

Objectives:
Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image
that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.
Market research: gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals
most to them. Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No
Illustrator pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-tracing. You may use
an image or drawing as a guide to trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image
before submitting.) Refine one logo with variations for color.

Process:
I started with some concept drawing of a few different designs. Then I used Adobe
Illustrator to design the drafts. Then I took those drafts to over 10 people to see their
opinion of what they thought about it. Each design got around the same number of
votes. There was one that did get more votes than the other two, but choice not to
use that one because of the two critiques that I had suggested that it would be the
most recognizable logo. I took the tree design and made it feel the shape of a circle
by moving out the canopy and expanding the root growth. I enlarged the size of
the text to make it more prominent. I also changed the color scheme so that it could
incorporate the color gold. I created the tree entirely with the use of the pen and the
direct selection tools. I changed how the text looked with the touch type tool. After I
created the logo how I wanted it, I lowered the saturation of the colors to created the
grey scale version and changed the colors all to white with different levels of opacity
for the white version. I focused a lot on simplicity, white space and the rule of odds.

Photodesign
Description:
This is a photography based ad design for the apartment complex of Aspen Village.

Date:
21 May 2016

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130-07
Sister Lindsey LeFevre

Program(s)/Tools:
I used Photoshop.

Objectives:
Learn basic photography skills. Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those
colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout. Use a digital camera to take a
quality image, then download it. Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance,
sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.) Size and crop the
image, then place on an 8.511 page layout. Use layers to design text, and repeating
graphic elements in Photoshop. Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8
(0.125) from all four sides.

Process:
First I took a few pictures around Aspen Village using a DSLR Camera. Then I edited
each one in Photoshop. I adjusted the levels, focused on a few colors, sharped the
focal points and increased the vibrancy. After editing all the pictures, I picked the best
one to use for my ad. Then still in Photoshop, I created the ad. I used the eye dropper
to pick colors from my picture to use for my color scheme. I repeated these colors
throughout. I created a few different sizes of boxes that I used. I made sure to used
good alignment with all of my boxes and text. I created a slight irregular rhythm with
the color swatches.

Event Ad
Description:
This is an ad for a buy one give one event that provides missionaries with bikes.

Date:
14 May 2016

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130-07
Sister Lindsey LeFevre

Program(s)/Tools:
I used Word.

Objectives:
Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together) Find, scan and
import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design. Choose a color scheme and
typeface(s) that work for your message and audience. Learn to use only Word design
features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.

Process:
I started by scanning a picture from my mission. Then I put it into a Word document.
There I removed the background, took colors from the picture, and created boxes and
text to support my message. With the help of Sister Lefevre and a couple of my FHE
sisters, I edited the document to have better flow and use of my color scheme.
