THE SVoT (SMART VEHICLE OF TOMORROW)

EVENT PROPOSAL
Task Objective:Owing to the drastic change in climatic conditions due to emission of green house gases (GHGs)
from automobiles, industries and other sources, research is eminently required in various areas
to mitigate the concentration of the GHGs. Switching to the alternate fuels is one of the
probably solution to the problem. In lieu of that, we seek entries from prominent institutions to
design and develop SMART VEHICLE OF TOMORROW (SVoT) in which the participant need to
design and fabricate a vehicle as per the below mentioned physical, technical and smart feature
specifications and need to compete in a race.

Parameters of judgment: 1. Design report will be required before final event and will be submitted online. There
will be No virtual round.
2. Separate marking would be for specifications required for vehicle to qualify for final
'Track Round'.
3. In 'Track Round' markings would be for the total time to complete the track and park
the vehicle in the prescribed parking. The track would be of around 400 m length,
rectangular shape with various obstacles (eg. loose mud, wet surface, inclined
surface, and speed humps, autocross).
4. Vehicle type: Already made vehicle - Go kart, ATV and Formula cars are accepted
with specified smart features.

Vehicle physical specifications: 1. 4 wheeler with two-wheel drive mechanism compact size
Reason:
Small and compact vehicle for city drive which replace bikes
Low cost
2. Ground clearance minimum 50mm. The participants have to fabricate their vehicle
within the permission limit of the above mentioned dimensions.
Reason:
As per compact size these are maximum size for Indian ergonomics.
Easy to drive in city area.
3. Maximum speed: There are no such limitations on maximum speed but the vehicle
must not touch the boundaries of the track at any time during the race. Otherwise,
negative marking will be there for every instance when the vehicle violate this rule.
4. Brake type: Hydraulic, Regenerative and/or Hybrid braking system
Reason:
To utilize loss of power while braking
Hydraulic brakes are efficient and easy to use because of their availability
5. Braking distance: 5 m at max. Speed of 30 km/h.
Reason:
As per safety of the driver the vehicle should stop with in this distance.
As per the coefficient of friction between the tires and the road (0.7) 10 m is
optimum distance
6. The vehicle should be powered by electricity (from any source- battery, solar etc.)
with maximum power of 15kW at torque of 30 Nm@2000 rpm and should be viable
to carry payload of 200 kg.
Reason:
Due to pressure on Fossil fuels, alternative fuels required
Students should learn to modify engines to alternate energy resources
7. Start-up: Key-less ignition start-up. The participant need to start the vehicle with
remote operated device (e.g. wireless connectivity)
Reason:
Futuristic system to start and stop the vehicle
Could be connected to smart phone
8. Safety: FEA analysis report required for different cases.

Reason:
Make optimum design which will be safe
Explanation of structural design before making of vehicle.
9. Vehicle should be equipped with smart parking sensors (all 4-side indication) to
assist the driver
Reason:
Advance parking assist required to guide the driver in such way that parking
will be easy in city areas
Some voice commands can be included
10. Smart Features and innovation have more marks
Reason:
Innovation can be useful to the normal person
Low cost and easy to operate
11. Vehicle maximum physical dimensions: - 2.0 m (length) x 1.8m (width) x 1.5m
(height).
12. Smart Wipers: - automatic rain sensor wipers need to be installed on wind screen.
13. The vehicle shall be an open-roof vehicle.
Safety features to be considered: 1 Kill switch, Fire Extinguisher and helmet and
seat belts required

1 kill switch in reach to drive.

1 Fire Extinguisher inside the vehicle

Track:1. Maximum length would be 400 m. The track would be of rectangular shape with
rounded corners.
2. Would consist of speed breakers to check the suspension durability.
3. Would consist of curves to check the stability of vehicle against rolling.
4. Track would be a soil/dirt track with various obstacles.
5. Would possess an inclination of 10-15 degrees for the span of 50-100 m.

Evaluation/Judging Criteria:1. The participating team has to send design report in order to qualify for main event.
2. In design report, the participating team would be asked to present their team
structure, vehicle design, FEA analysis report, progress plan/Gantt chart, bill of
material, and budget proposal.
3. In the main event, the vehicle would be judged against the required specifications
viz., alternate fuel, body/frame material, dead weight of the vehicle, smart features,
fuel efficiency and driver/passenger safety features.
4. The participating teams have to compete with each other in a race on given track.
5. The driver has to park the car using smart parking sensors in a given area.
6. Main theme of event is Smart Vehicle so maximum marks goes to the futuristic
innovation and technologies.
7. Low emission and eco-friendly vehicle would be awarded with extra marks.

For participation in further rounds of dynamic event it is mandatory to clear the brake test, in this teams
have to run their vehicle for a flat run of 100ft and will have to stop this vehicle in specified range,
during the end of 100 ft flat run vehicle speed must be at least 30kmph. Each vehicle will be given to 3
attempts to pass brake test after failing in previous two chances.

Smart Features test (Third test)

Smart features will be analyzed by the event judges on the basis of given points
