The Presenter
Meet our presenters Brenton Whittle and Michelle Crowden
Brenton Whittle
Brenton's career in television spans more than 28 years and includes drama, panel shows, compering,
children's programs, puppeteering, educational programs and commercials.
For 10 years he was co-presenter of 'The Book Place', a television program dedicated to instilling in young
children the love of books and reading. Awards include the 1994 Asian Broadcasting Union award for Best
Children's and Bronze Award winner at the 1998 New York Festivals.
He has also appeared in many motion pictures, including 'Shine' and 'Napoleon', and in documentaries and
mini-series.
He has won numerous awards for his advertising work as a writer and creative director, and a silver logie as an
actor.
Brenton is also sought after for voice-over and compering work, and his clear and resonant speech makes him a
perfect choice for presenting a program aimed at learners of English as a second language.
Michelle Crowden
Michelle made her television debut at age 16 on the ABC's children's education show 'Here's the Beat' and
presented Channel 10's pre-school show 'The Music Shop' in the late '90s.
Michelle is also a well-known singer and cabaret performer. She has performed in musical theatre and opera,
and as a singer/vocalist with a number of bands and musicians. She is also in great demand as a solo
performer for sporting events and conferences.
Apart from her performing and television work she is also a teacher, with a special interest in developing musical

2. VERY, SO & SUCH
very
We use very with adjectives to mean 'more than' or 'extremely'.
very big
You can say very twice to mean 'much more than'
very, very big
Notice that we use a comma when writing very twice.
very, very big
Very can be used before or after the things it is describing.
You have very beautiful eyes.
Your eyes are very beautiful.
So & such
You can use so instead of very to mean the same thing.
Your eyes are so beautiful.
But we use so only after the things being described.
Your eyes are so beautiful.
We dont say:
You have so beautiful eyes. XX
We use such before the things being described and say:
You have such beautiful eyes.
If you use such to describe a single thing, you use a.
You have such a beautiful smile.
For things that cant be counted we just use such.
Its such lovely weather.
