Introductory statement
of purpose

This morning we are going to look at how to organize a narrative. This is

important so that our idea, and our story begin to make sense.

Connection to
prior knowledge

In an effort to write down the story as they imagine it, students often
write in a choppy manner, or so unclear that their idea is not present.

Modeling, demonstration,
or student involvement

Teacher will mix up the strips of paper and put them up on the white
board using magnets. The teacher will them prompt students by asking
if there is a specific way that a narrative should be ordered. Allow for
student response. Then teacher will read her story in its mixed up
order, then ask students if her narrative is organized correctly. Teacher
will think aloud after students have answered, her narrative must follow
the temporal words included. Then the teacher will ask a student to
help rearrange the strips of paper until it is properly organized.
