i. Preamble

The following pages contain the design calculations for the Pile Foundation, Pile Cap for Piers in straight p
height 10.0m from top of piercap to top of pilecap (LHS & RHS) of the Gangapath Elevated corridor.

The Structure is 25.0m 2 span continious (deck continuity) with precast pretensioned I Girder sections r
POT/PTFE bearing. The bridge is divided into two separate structures Left & Roght carriageway seperated
Each structure carries the traffic in one direction, has two lanes for traffic and a 1.55m width footpath. Each
is supported by a pier and pile foundation. The Pier is solid rectangular in nature with a cantilever pier cap t
the superstructure. The Pier is in turn supported on pile foundation and a rigid pile cap. The piles are founde
strata to transfer the vertical and horizontal loads from the structure.

The Load cases under consideration are Dead Load, Superimposed Dead Load, Live Load, Footpath L
breaking force, Wind Load, & Seismic Loads. The certain conditions which occur simultaneously are taken
like, Braking and Live load. Bearing friction is considered along with each individual permanent load case a
an seperate load case. These loads are combined as per the recommendations of IRC 6 with appropriate loa
While preparing the load combinations the worst effects of individual loads are taken to create the design loa

Bending moment in the pile is calculated by spring constant anology calculated from horizontal & vertical
reactions. The geotechnical capacity of the pile is as per the pile capacity calculation report. To calculate the
the piles which depend on the stiffness of the substructure, the fixity is considered at the top of pile ca
purpose of design the pile foundation is modeled in STAAD with spring constant & horizontal forces applied
cap bottom. For the distribution of forces in the piles, the pile cap is considered as rigid. The pile cap is desi
flexural member for the critical load case.
