with manufacturers technical requirements.
Must be installed by an aquatherm registered installer.
Can be used for flow and return hot water ring mains within the parameters of
temperature and pressure chart.
Pipe (only) can be laid directly in concrete/plaster and solid walls in accordance with
aquatherm SHT installation procedures.
All in ground services & inslab installations must be installed to AS/NZS 3500.5.2000
Clause 2.13.2.
Pipe must be clipped as to aquatherm support intervals for SHT using brand matched clips
or clippets. Ensure all pipe work is installed to NZBC requirements.
Can be used for radiator connections however it is recommended that EVOH barrier
products are installed in accordance with DIN 4721 & pipe work is clearly identified as
heating flow and return.
Pipes & fittings shall not be used within 1 meter of the inlet or outlet of a water heater.
Pipe & fittings shall not be used when exposed to direct sunlight.
Is not suitable for chemicals or petroleum oils.
Pipe must not be used on the flow & returns from solar panels, wetbacks or relief drains
of an uncontrolled heat source.
When connecting to other piping systems always use thread connector. Do not use
aquatherm Sliding Sleeve connector.
When used as an alternative non potable supply, ensure pipes are clearly & permanently
labeled in accordance with AS1345 & AS1319.

Transport & Storage

Handle and store pipes and fittings to avoid damage when stored on site
ensure they are
 Under cover
 Out of direct Sunlight
 On a flat surface
 Away from active site construction
Stored away from paints, chemicals, grease and other active substances.
Ensure that unprotected pipes are not dragged across the ground or concrete floor. Where ever
possible keep pipes in original packaging.

Testing
Confirm the timing before carrying out any tests. Supply potable water and the apparatus needed.
Ensure that all fixtures/ appliances / tanks / water heater / tape ware and valves are isolated
before commencing testing. Test to aquatherm SHT test procedures as applicable.
aquatherm NZ Ltd must receive this information within 3 months of the installation for the
warranty to be valid. Please consult with your local area Council as they may require a copy of the
test results for their records.
Note
When testing aquatherm SHT pipes that are connected to fusiotherm pipes the fusiotherm test
is to be used for both pipe systems.

Concrete And In Ground Installations

aquatherm SHT pipes manufactured from Polybutylene offers us special features for concealed
installations. Therefore SHT pipes can be installed directly into concrete floors, walls, plaster and
solid block work. The comprehensive strain and stress arising from a temperature dependent
linear expansion is not critical as they are absorbed through the Polybutylene material.
aquatherm GmbH guarantee a 50 year service life for the below installations according to
aquatherm SHT temperature and pressure service life chart and further confirms aquatherm
GmbH give a 10 year product liability which compensates for material damage to third persons. All
installation must be in accordance with aquatherm installation principles and by a registered
installer.
In Slabs & Floorings
It is not necessary to sleeve hot or cold pipe work when installed directly in the slab or
block work apart from in expansion joints and penetrations, which are covered in the text.
All hot water ring mains shall be insulated when installing in concrete floors. Thermal
expansion consideration is not necessary, as the material will absorb the stress within the
insulation material. As with expansion joints, these must be insulated and extending at
least 300mm either side of the joint to avoid damage of the pipe work.
Ensure that all pipe work is installed to the requirements of the Building Code and/or local
authority.
Where possible, we recommend the installation of pipe work underneath the steel mesh.
This keeps the pipe work deep in the concrete slab, reducing risk of dynabolts and saw
cut penetrations. Secure pipe work with cable ties of plastic or steel to reinforcing chairs
and mesh where applicable.
When installing without mesh on to polythene or polystyrene, consideration must be given
to securing the pipe work from floating or lifting.
Under Concrete Slabs or Floors
SHT pipes shall be laid in a narrow trench of sand or fine-grain soil and compacted in a
manner that will not damage the pipe. We recommend a minimum distance of 75mm
between the pipe and the underside of the floor.
Any piping that penetrates the slab shall be at right angles to the surface of the slab and
shall be lagged with an impermeable, flexible plastic material of not less that 6mm
thickness for the full depth of the slab penetration as per clause 2.13.3 AS/NZS
3500.5.2000
Underfloor Heating Considerations
If underfloor heating is to be installed in the concrete slab, it is recommended that you
insulate all hot & cold pipe work in the slab.
Liaise with your local building authority for local authority procedures.
Contact our Technical department for any installation procedure enquires. (09) 570 7204

MATERIALS: aquatherm SHT

Pipe Material
aquatherm SHT potable and heating connection

aquatherm SHT Tool Case

TOOLS: aquatherm SHT

SLIDING SLEEVE:

aquatherm SHT Tools:

Sliding Sleeve:
The connection technique sliding sleeve is an
interlocking connection type.

The aquatherm SHT sliding sleeve system has

a very simple connection technique. You will
only need:
 an expanding tool
 a mounting tool
to get an permanent connection.

The durable tight connection results from

pressing the aquatherm SHT sliding sleeve
onto the aquatherm SHT pipe with the
aquatherm SHT fitting.

Both tools are equipped with interchangeable

false jaws for the dimensions 16mm to 25mm.
The tools including a plastic pipe cutter, are
supplied in a handy steel case.

Only use the sliding sleeve technique by means

of aquatherm SHT system pipes, tools, fittings
and connection pieces supplied by aquatherm.

Tool Change:
The interchangeable head of the expanding tool
is screwed off then the required dimension is
fixed.
Only remove the bolts to change both inserts of
the aquatherm SHT mounting tool. After
inserting the false jaw the bolts need to be
inserted in opposing directions (image 1)
One ring sleeve, for use only on EVOH pipe for
underfloor heating and radiator connections

The expanding head, expanding tool and

mounting tool require light lubrication to avoid
wear and tear.
Important notice:
aquatherm NZ Ltd does not allow the
installation of other branded pipe fittings with
the aquatherm SHT range.

Two ring sleeve, for use with aquatherm SHT

pipe (PT477020-PT477022) for potable water
installations.

CONNECTION TECHNIQUE:

aquatherm SHT

aquatherm SHT uses an interlocking connection giving it a durable, tight result.

The connection technique involves pressing the aquatherm SHT sliding sleeve onto the
aquatherm SHT pipe using the fitting. It is important to use only the aquatherm SHT system
pipes, tool, fittings and connection pieces made by aquatherm when connecting with sliding
sleeve.
1. Compressing the corrugated pipe
If using corrugated pipe the
PE- corrugated pipe is compressed and can
be adjusted with the red or blue end sleeve.
It is not necessary to cut the corrugated pipe
before connecting it.
2. Put the sliding sleeve onto the
pipe
Before expanding the connection pipe, the
SHT- Sleeve has to be slid onto the pipe. This
sleeve is identical at both ends. It does not
make any difference which end is slide onto
the pipe.
Expanding of the connection pipe
To expand the pipe, the tool handles have to
be opened completely, so that you can insert
the expanding head into the pipe end; the
expanding tool handles are pressed together;
the aquatherm SHT connection pipe is bulge
formed, the tool should be opened again,
turned slightly and closed again so that the
pipe is expanded evenly
Attention!
If the temperature is below 0C the pipe must
be warmed up before expanding it. White
discolourations are unproblematic. With
EVOH-oxygen tight pipes the coating is only
expanded lightly neither without influencing
the tightness of the pipe connection nor the
oxygen barrier.
NOTE: The sliding sleeve must be kept away
from the area where the pipe is being
expanded as otherwise the tool and pipe
might be damaged.
3. Pressing
The expanded pipe end is pushed on to the
fitting all the way up to the stop.
Now the assembly tool is put on.
On compressing the tool the sleeve presses
the plastic pipe onto the supporting body.
That quick and safe permanent connection is
installed.

Sound Insulation
The sound insulation qualities of the SHT pipe system, when related to water flow and hydraulic
shock within a building, provide a sound proofing effect on noise transmission.
Therefore the sound transmission is much lower compared to metallic pipes.
Heat Conductivity
aquatherm SHT pipes manufacture from Polybutylene have a heat conductivity of 0.22 W/mK. This
means in terms of heat transfer aquatherm SHT pipes has a significantly higher degree of self
insulation compared to metallic pipes.
Note: aquatherm supplies pre insulated SHT EVOH oxygen tight pipes, suitable for potable water
ring mains and radiator non potable applications.
