I. Introduction to the Study

According to Missouri health and senior services
website ticks are responsible for more human disease
than any other insects in United States. Tick-borne
diseases are known as zoonotic diseases which is an
infectious diseases that can be transmitted between
animals and humans. . Ticks become infected with a
disease-causing agent by feeding on infected mammals
or birds. For example, a tick can pick upLyme
diseasefrom a field mouse, and later in its life transmit
bacteria to a deer, dog or human. Human case numbers
per year for tick-borne diseases are generally on the rise.
This upward trend is due to better recognition and
disease reporting, but is also a reflection of changes in
the environment that fosters increased exposure and
transmission to humans. Fortunately, not all ticks are

There are a lot of tick prevention methods that are

introduced in our society. An example is insect
repellants that contains DEET and permithrin in the
product but these products roughly cost 273 pesos per
300 mL in the market. It is proven effective but
expensive as well. In the average of 481 pesos of
minimum wage per 5 member household per day, it is
very difficult for the family to buy a 273 peso repellant.
So the researchers decided to create an easy
way to get rid of the pests that is harming our pet dogs
as well as ourselves. Studies have shown that
lemongrass oil is an effective insecticide against
various insects like dust mites, termites and
mosquitoes. Citronella oil which is the oil that is found
on lemon grass is proven to have 50% - 95% effective
on terminating various insects. It can also help that
many pet owners nowadays are very keen on using
products with chemicals on their pets because this

Objectives
General Objective :
This study aims too asses the ability of lemongrass
extract to terminate animal ticks.
Specific Objectives :
Specifically this study aims;
- To determine the effectiveness of lemongrass extract
in killing animal ticks.
- To determine the effectiveness of lemongrass oil in
killing animal ticks.

Hypothesis
- Lemongrass extract will not be able to terminate
animal ticks.

Significance of The Study

People today are very aware of different insects that gives us different
diseases and some even are deadly. Although people are aware of this, there
is not enough action that is done for the diseases to be prevented. Awareness
is important but action is more important. This study aims to create a
prevention for the insects specifically the ticks and fleas that is effective and
affordable.
Through this study the mass will benefit because there will be an easy
prevention. Specially when that prevention can be found almost everywhere
since lemongrass grows in tropical places. Through this tick terminator people
who interact with animals would not worry anymore.

Scope and limitations

The researches used an alternative tick terminator made out of
lemongrass stalk and water. The researchers used two methods in
creating this tick terminator and will choose the more effective one.
Materials used for this tick terminator are available at the
researchers' houses. The lemongrass is freshly picked from nearby
garden of the researchers house. The water is found in the
researchers house as well as the oil that is used for the second
method uses. This study is limited only to a bundle of lemongrass, 1
liter of water and 2 teaspoon olive oil. The study was conducted at
San Antonio Molo, Iloilo City last January 13, 2015 7 o'clock until 8
o'clock.
