3Dtoolbaroverview
The3Dtoolbarappearsafteryouclickthe3DmodelwiththeHandtool.Thisactionactivatesthe3Dmodeland
playsanimationsthataresettoplaywhenthefileisenabled.The3Dtoolbaralwaysappearsintheareaabove
theupperleftcornerofthe3Dmodelandcannotbemoved.AsmallarrowappearstotherightoftheRotatetool,
whichyoucanclicktoeitherhideorexpandthetoolbar.
Youcanusethe3Dtoolbartozoominandout,rotate,andpanacrosstheobject.UsetheModelTreetohideor
isolateparts,ormakepartstransparent.
Youmanipulatea3Dmodelbyselectinganddraggingvarious3Dnavigationtools.Whenyounavigatein3D,it
helpstothinkofitasviewingthestationary3Dmodelfromacamerasperspective.Youcanrotate,pan(move
up,down,orsidetoside),andzoominorout.

3Dnavigationtools
Rotate
Turns3Dobjectsaroundrelativetothescreen.Howtheobjectsmovedependsonthestartingview,whereyou
startdragging,andthedirectioninwhichyoudrag.
Note: YoucanalsousetheHandtooltorotateanobject.EnsurethatEnable3DSelectionForTheHandToolis
selectedinthe3DpanelofthePreferencesdialogbox.
Spin
Turnsa3Dmodelinparalleltotwofixedaxesinthe3Dmodel,thexaxisandthezaxis.
Pan
Movesthemodelverticallyandhorizontallyonly.YoucanalsopanwiththeHandtool:Ctrldrag.
Zoom
Movesyoutoward,orawayfrom,objectsinthescenewhenyoudragvertically.YoucanalsozoomwiththeHand
toolbyholdingdownShiftasyoudrag.
Walk
Pivotshorizontallyaroundthescenewhenyoudraghorizontally.Movesforwardorbackwardinthescenewhen
youdragverticallymaintainsaconstantelevationlevel,regardlessofhowyoudrag.TheWalktoolisespecially
usefulforarchitectural3Dmodels.Tochangethewalkingspeed,changethedefaultdisplayunitsinthe
Preferences(3D).
Note: TheWalktoolisavailablewhenyouselectthePreferencessettingthatconsolidatestoolsorwhenyou
rightclickthe3DmodelandchooseTools>Walk.
Fly
Navigatesthroughamodelwhilemaintainingthesurfaceorientation.Rightclickanddraginsidethe3Dwindow.
TheFlytoolmovesmoreslowlythecloseryoumovetowardanobject.Dragthepointerrightorlefttoturn.
Torotatethecameraview,clicktheleftmousebuttoninsidethe3Dwindowanddragtoturnthecameraview.To
returntothestartingcameradirection,movethemousebacktotheinitialclickpoint.
Usethemousescrollwheeltomoverapidlybackwardandforwardalongthecameraviewdirection.This
functionalityisusefulifyougetlostwithinamodelorflyintothesurface.
Cameraproperties
Definesthecameraangle,alignment,andotherpropertiesthatdefinethelensthroughwhicha3Dmodelis
viewed.Camerapropertiesarecomponentsofviewsbutaresetindependently.
3DMeasurementTool
Measurespartsizesanddistancesinthe3Dmodel.

ClicktheDefaultViewicononthe3Dtoolbartomovetheobjectbackintoview.

OpensandhidestheModelTree.
Play/PauseAnimation
PlaysorpausesanyJavaScriptenabledanimation.ThePlay/PauseAnimationpopupmenuopensasliderthat
youcandragbackandforthtomovetodifferenttimesintheanimationsequence.
UseOrthographic/PerspectiveProjection
Togglesbetweendisplayingperspectiveandorthographicprojectionofthe3Dobject.
ModelRenderModemenu
Determineshowthe3Dshapeappears.Foranillustratedguide,seeExamplesofmodelrenderingmodes.
EnableExtraLightingmenu
Liststhedifferentlightingeffectsthatareavailabletoenhancetheilluminationofthe3Dobject.Experimenttoget
thevisualeffectsyouwant.
BackgroundColor
Opensthecolorpicker,whichyoucanusetoselectadifferentcolorforthespacesurroundingthe3Dobject.
ToggleCrossSection
Showsandhidescrosssectionsoftheobject.ClickthepopupmenutoopentheCrossSectionPropertiesdialog
box.Formoreinformation,seeCreatecrosssections.
AddMultimedia/3DComment
Enablesyoutoaddastickynotetoanypartofthe3Dmodel.Thenotestayswiththeview.SeeCommentingon
3DdesignsinPDFs.

Inthe3D&MultimediapanelofthePreferencesdialogbox,youcandeterminewhetherthe3Dtoolbar
andModelTreearedisplayedbydefault.Youcanalsospecifyadefaultrendereranddeterminewhether
animationsareallowed.
PreferredRenderer Specifiestherenderingengineusedtoaffectbothperformanceandquality,soits
importanttoselecttheappropriaterenderer.Dependingonyoursystem,youcanchangeyourrenderengine.If
youselectaDirectXorOpenGLoption,allrenderingtakesplaceusingthegraphicschiponthevideoadapter.
IfSoftwareisselected,renderingtakesmoretime,buttheperformanceisoftenmoreconsistentwiththemodel
renderingoftheoriginatingapplication.
EnableHardwareRenderingForLegacyVideoCards Forcestheuseofahardwareacceleratorforeven
videoadaptersthatdonotsupportapixelshader.
EnableDoubleSidedRendering Somemodelpartshavetwosides.Tosavetimeandspace,youcandeselect

OptimizationSchemeForLowFramerate Specifieswhathappenstoanimationsofcomplexmodelswhenthe
frameratebecomeslow.Nonedoesnotcompromisethevisualsandleavestheframeratelow.Bounding
Boxshowsthethreedimensionalplanesenclosingthepartsinsteadofthepartsthemselves,whichkeepsthe
frameratehigh.DropObjectsdoesnotshowsomepartsofthemodel,whichkeepstheframeratehigh.
FramerateThreshold Setstheminimumframerate,eitherbydraggingthesliderorenteringanumberinthe
valuebox.Iftheframeratedropsbelowthatnumberofframespersecond,theOptimizationSchemeForLow
Framerateoptiongoesintoeffect.
