Change is coming.

This was what, the now 16th president of the

Philippiness battle cry during the entire campaign period this previous election.
No leader, however strong, can succeed at anything of national importance
or significance unless he has the support and cooperation of the people he is tasked
to lead and sworn to serve, says President Rodrigo Roa Duterte during his
Inauguration Speech last June 30, 2016. Never can one fathom that the rude guy
who bluntly speaks whatever thought comes to mind, can be this dedicated in
serving the country and its people. In his speech, he had pinpointed the problems
that the country is facing right now: corruption, both in the high and low echelons of
government, criminality in the streets, the rampant sale of illegal drugs in all strata
of Philippine, society and the breakdown of law and order. Pres. Duterte was honest
enough to admit the shortcomings of the government, and no one can deny the fact
that he was more than willing to, if not completely eradicate, lessen these
difficulties. Erosion of faith and trust in government that is the real problem that
confronts us. That was what the president said. Whats more was the fact that
these problems was caused by merely losing the faith and trust in the government,
which the president has emphasized in his speech. The blame for the countrys
downfall was not just because of the people in position- it was also because of us.
Indeed, ours is a problem that dampens the human spirit. But all is not
lost.
The president did not promise anything, for maybe previous people in
position made promises that werent fulfilled. The president also accepted that he
could not please everyone, since even before he was elected as the countrys
president; many have disapproved of his methods to solve the problems which were
faced by the country. Some may say his ways are wrong, that there are other ways
to solve these without force and without fear, but as a lawyer, he knows whats
legal and whats not. He implied that he knows the limit of the power and authority
of a president. He clearly stressed that he knows what he is doing, and that the
people should worry about themselves and their businesses, and let him worry his.
President Duterte also made it clear that he could not succeed in all the plans
he has for the country if the people were not to support him. He indicates that, the
ride will be rough. But come and join me just the same. Together, shoulder to

shoulder, let us take the first wobbly steps in this quest. Each soul is essential for
him to succeed, no one is an exemption. This means that the Philippines will not
progress if we want to improve by bringing down others. President Duterte showed
how independent and trustworthy he can be while also making it clear that he will
succeed not on his own but only if we try to help him. We must help each other,
hand in hand, and together take that path to success. He cannot alone bring the
country to a better light if her people would not help themselves. It is by unity, that
the change could be brought, and with his leadership.
When the president was about to state the reason why he was there,
delivering his speech for all the people to see, his past reason was because he loves
the country and as well as the people of the Philippines. However, now, he was
there, delivering his speech because he is ready to start his work for the nation.
That alone, in all fairness, is admirable.
Each one of us is entitled to our own opinions. Some may say that Pres.
Rodrigo Duterte isnt the man cut for the job. Others believe no one is more capable
for the position aside from him. But will the change really come from the newly
elected president? With his presidency, given the benefit of the doubt, maybe he
could be of help with improving this country. Change is coming but the change, if it
is to be permanent and significant, must start with us and in us.

Our beloved Leni Robredo has been inaugurated as the second highest public
servant (Vice President) of the Philippines on June 30, 3016 at the Quezon City
Reception House.
It was the first time in Philippine history that there was no joint inauguration
of the president and vice president of the land. Both president and vice president,
however, spoke of a nation that must come together. The joint inauguration would
have been a great symbol of our aspiration to be one nation despite our differences.
The good part about being pushed aside to hold a separate inauguration gives VP
Leni Robredo a chance to show her talent, having her own stage and give her own
remarks.

As much as she was trying to call for unity and offers herself for a truthful
public service, Robredo's speech was still lacking in substance. It bares her basic
weakness that she's not capable of thinking on her own and even outside of the
box. It was just a repetition of the motherhood statements she made during the
campaign. Instead of traveling in between the proclamation and the inauguration,
she should've sat down with her policy wonks to craft her agenda for the next six
years and how she intends to achieve it. Her use of her life journey as the narrative
of her political career doesn't register with the nasa laylayan ng lipunan. VP Leni
should now stand on her own and not claim her late husband's achievements as her
own. They're not. Now is the time for her to take the initiative to prove her haters
wrong. Yet it appears that she's only capable of functioning and stepping up to the
game when she has the backing of the ruling party behind her.
It was still a great, signified, call to unity speech. "Sa panahon ng matinding
hidwaan, ang pagkakaisa ng bansa ang tanging pag-asa. Iba iba man ang ating
pinanggagalingan, iisa ang ating hangarin: na ang bawat pamilyang Pilipino ay
mamuhay ng may dangal," VP Leni said.
We hope that what unites us is more powerful that what separates us. And
what should truly unite us is our love for our country, and our special care for our
poor, those who live at the margins of our society. We will stand with the Duterte
Presidency. We will support our beloved VP in her passionate commitment to those
who are at the laylayan, particularly in the fight against hunger and deprivation,
and the pursuit of education that will free our poor from the cycle of poverty. We will
work with them in whatever way we can, in whatever capacity that allows us, so
both of them, together with us,

can bring to fruition a more just and humane

society. Together or united, we can make a difference. Continue to ask ourselves,

"What good can we do for our country and its people?"
