Profile of Producer
For the field work task, we visited an industry
that produce an instant drink, made from
Kulit Manggis, which is KONDANG. Mr.
Bambang is the owner of this industry. The
industry it self located in, Yos Sudarso Street,
Number 20, Kupang, Ambarawa. Besides
Kulit Manggis, the industry also produces
another instant drink made from, Sirsak
leaves, Kunyit Asam, Kencur, etc.
Kondang industry is a home industry, so the production of the instant drink is made in
the back of the Mr. Bambangs house. Mr. Bambang had an education about instant
drink from BPOM, so the methods that he used are surely safe. In his home, there are
some machines that helped Mr. Bambang to produce the instant drink. He started this
business since 1997, but at that time, he doesnt make an instant drink yet. At first, Mr.
Bambang is making an instant Jamu, which made from spices like cinnamon, ginger,
brotowali, adas gunung, kumis kucing and etc. But, it turns out that this Jamu industry
doesnt going so well. So, thats how he started this new industry.

For the selling of the product, Mr. Bambang goes by himself to sell it. Now, the product
is available at super market like Hypermart, Carrefour, Gelael. But, to do so, theres a
lot of struggling that experienced by Mr. Bambang. At first, not all of the supermarket
accept the product, because a lot of reason. But, the most urgent reason are the license.
Supermarket are not going to accept a product which not has a suitable license for the
product. So, Mr. Bambang has to work on the license for the product. Fortunately, he
got helped by BPOM, so now, his product is already have the license from BPOM dan
Health Deparment.

What is instant drink?


Instant powder drink was found long time ago and still exist until now. The people like
to consume instant powder drink because has a long shelf life, practical, and easy to
make. On the market, instant powder drink has a large number of varieties, include the
fruit base product. The materials to make instant powder drink doesnt consist 100% of
fruit extract, but also added by some chemical flavor, colorant, sweetener, and
preservative. That chemicals component actually prohibited to be consume in a large
frequency because can impact the human health. So according to that fact, its better to
use 100% natural component into instant powder drink. Kulit buah manggis
(mangosteens skin extract) is one kind of natural herb that can be optimized to make
instant powder drink. Kulit buah manggis contain a lot of antioxidant that have benefit
for human health. Beside that, with use kulit buah manggis to produce instant powder
drink, we can also make an impact to recycle and minimize the number of waste from
mangosteen.

Benefits of kulit manggis?


Kulit buah manggis (mangosteens skin) has a large portion that become waste from
mangosteen fruit. Beside to decrease the number of waste, used kulit buah manggis to
produce instant powder drink also have many health benefit (Sugito, 2003). Beside have
function as antioxidant agent, kulit manggis also has function as antibacterial, prohibit
carcinogen compound, anti inflame, and anti proliferation (Sukarti et al., 2008). Some
research says that kulit buah manggis can works as antioxidant agent because it contain
fenolic and polifenol compound like xanthone and epikatekin. Xanthone has some
benefit like antioxidant, antidiabetes, anticancer, anti-imflamasi, hepatoprotective,
immuno-modulation, dan antibacterial that can minimize carcinogen compound on the
colon.
