What is LDAP?

LDAP is a plugin built into Opinio, used specifically for UNM Banner related functions. It is most commonly used for
its security and importing utilities. LDAP allows users to add extra precaution to survey security by enabling them to
restrict multiple submissions, password protect surveys, and record operating data such as NetIDs. Additionally,
LDAP is also used to seamlessly import large amounts of invitee emails listed in excel CSV files ( visit the link below
for more information.) into your custom invitation. This eliminates the hassle of manually importing each invitee.
Invites sent to respondent through LDAP are automatically equipped with a unique encryption that prevents the email
from being shared. This greatens survey security, and also prevents unauthorized votes. For more information LDAP
functionality, visit our tutorial page regarding LDAP
1.

How do I enable LDAP?

LDAP can be enabled from your survey home by clicking on the widget labeled " LDAP Authorization

1.

Some of my invitees are not affiliated with a UNM NetID, can i still use LDAP to import them?

2.

When uploading invitees, only a portion of them are imported. What could be causing this?

3.

Some respondents are mentioning that they cannot log in to take my survey with LDAP enabled, what could
be causing this?

4.

Is there any way to recieve notifications for responses to my survey?

Accessing esurvey Answers:

1.

Are there fees for using esurvey?

At this time, there is no charge for electronic elections or surveys developed by University students, staff or faculty.

2.

What are the technical requirements for using esurvey?

esurvey is entirely browser based, no software installation is required.
IE7+ Firefox 46 + Google Chrome are best optimized for Opinio.

3.

I have forgotten my username and/or my password, how can I reclaim it?

Along with Opinions in depth functionality, also comes a set of useful plug-ins. One in particular, automatically
synchronizes your Opinio login information to your UNM NetID and password credentials. This means that you will
be able to log in to your Opinio account using your NetID and password. Additionally, this makes incidents like
forgetting your username or password easier resolve. If you do happen to forget your UNM NetID or password,
you can change it like you normally would at https://netid.unm.edu/, and your changes will carry over to your
Opinio account.
If you have forgotten your NetID and/or password, go to https://netid.unm.edu/ to reset your password. If you do
not have an esurvey account, click here to request an esurvey account.

4.

I get a "Login failed" or Password Warning error when I log into esurvey, what can be the problem?
First, be sure you have an esurvey account. If you don't have one, you can request one here. Make sure Caps
Lock is not on, and be sure you are logging into the correct site for Opinio. The URL for esurvey
is https://esurvey.unm.edu/. The login is your UNM NetID and esurvey only accepts main campus NetID's. The
password you use is the same password you use for my.unm.edu (the password given to you with your UNM
NetID). If your password contains upper case letters, be sure to enter them as upper case letters when you log
into Opinio. If you still cannot log into Opinio, refer back to part 3 and reset your UNM password
at https://netid.unm.edu/.If the problem persists, submit a help.UNM ticket here.

Password Warning
Passwords with any special characters other than "_" and "#" will cause an Opinio login failure, even though the
password may still work with my.unm.edu. The forbidden characters are @, $, %, ^, &, *, (, ), +, <, =, and >.
5.

I've logged into esurvey without any problems, but when I click on the 'Create new survey' button,
I'm given an error message saying my access is denied and I need to contact the esurvey administrator.
The most plausible issue in this case is that the user may not have the required permissions to create surveys in
that particular folder, or the user is simply attempting to create a folder that is not assigned to them. If a user
requires permissions to create folders in another user's folder(s), they will have to submit a ticket to be granted
access. Users requesting clearance for other department folders will need to have written permission from the
folder owner stating that the user is allowed. Once the permissions are provided, an Opinio support member can
immediately grant rights.

Survey Basics Answers:

3.

How do I move a survey into another folder?

Surveys can be easily moved as long as it is migrated between two locations that the user has admin rights to.
Under your folders content in Opinio, there is an icon with the description "Move" when scrolled over to the right of
the survey's name. Upon clicking this, you will be prompted with a hierarchy in which you can designate the
survey's new location. Alternatively, users can also move their surveys by exporting, and reimporting surveys to
their desired location

4.

Is there anyway to access the same survey from the same computer several times?
By default, multiple submissions will not be allowed from the same computer. This is controlled either by cookies
or invite authentication. To be able to use the same computer for several respondents the multiple submissions
attribute should be "turned on". Please see http://www.objectplanet.com/esurvey/userguide/index.htm?
page=other_survey_info.html for more details.

5.

Can I use esurvey to administer online quizzes?

Although you can use esurvey to administer online quizzes, the functionality is quite limited. Under the
circumstances for quiz creations, the University prefers that you utilize UNM Learn if you are hosting an online
class. If you are not hosting an online class or do not have access to UNM Learn, please feel free to utilize
esurvey's quiz facility. For an overview of esurvey's quiz functionality, please
see: http://www.objectplanet.com/opinio/quizplugin/

Please contact the IT Support Center, if you have any questions about using esurvey as a quiz tool.

Survey Data:
1.

How do I import data into excel?

The data can be converted to excel by first exporting it. Instructions on how to export the data can be seen
here:http://www.objectplanet.com/esurvey/userguide/raw_data_settings.html Once exported, you can import this
data into excel. See Excel documentation of how to import data.

2.

I've conducted my survey and everything went fine except for one matrix question converted all of
the answers to True or False.
Usually this is due to the main cell group being limited to just two options, as opposed to all of the ones available
in the matrix question. Correct data should be stored in the Raw Data report and SPSS report for that survey.
Unfortunately the problem won't be able to be fixed without deleting all responses in the survey first. Please review
matrix question guidelines and practices.

Taking the Survey/Voting Online

1.

I can't login to vote online. Help?

UNM elections typically use NetID authentication to prevent non-UNM people from voting and to allow one vote, if
applicable. Common problems are:

When logging into the online voting system use only your UNM NetID, not salud or other email
account names. Logon MUST BE all in lower case, even if you normally use caps for part of it.

Use the normal password for your NetID. For example, if you use capital letters or special
characters in your password then continue to do so (unlike the UNM NetID which needs to be lowercase).

If you have a NetID and can't login to MyUNM, try resetting your password by following "How can I
reset or change my NetID Password?"

ASUNM policy requires voting at "polling places" - no remote web based voting is currently
provided. Please see the ASUNM home page for more information.

For other University elections email invitations are required to vote. If you did not receive an
invitation to vote or accidentally deleted your invitation, please contact your election chair.

Opinio crashes upon uncleared cache:
We highly reccommend that users consistenly clear their browser cache, as it has
been known to cause issues with Opinio. An uncleared cache recycles timed out
data and causes persistent errors with Opinios page navigation.

Limited memory with Matrix questions:

The use of dense matrix questions has been known to consume large amounts of
Opinios allocated memory. This can lead to multiple errors in which changes to
surveys will not save, as well as errors in page navigation.
Don't forget to back up your surveys! Once surveys, or survey responses are deleted the data is
unrecoverable. We recommend that you use the export feature of Opinio to export your surveys with data and
reports included. Be sure to store it on your hard drive or another alternative form of safe remote storage. Since the
exported survey with the data will be sent to your email address as an attachment, it is ideal to save those emails as
an additional backup. If your data is sensitive, we encourage you to use some method of encryption. If it is mission
critical, then off-site storage is highly recommended.
