Film Analysis
Racism is a constant issue within our American society in the past,
present and future. To this day, people struggle to release misconceptions
about minorities in communities. Many people believe different skin colors
define a person's character without creating an opportunity to present ones
self to each other. The media business is the main instigator within racism
because the media television articles are based upon biased thoughts of
each production company. With this being said, media affiliated programs
need to realize the contributions they are making towards racial differences
in our American society.
While watching the movie Crash directed by Paul Haggis, this film is
developed around racial and social digressions in Los Angeles, California.
This movie was inspired by an incident involving Haggis in which his Porsche
was car-jacked outside of a video store. Throughout this film the characters
interact with one another and clearly represent how people perceive one
another to be based upon different races. The film is different from others
about racism in which its impartial approach leaves the audience with
relative scenes and allowing the racial slurs to be produce from ignorance

and misconceptions, not from malicious personalities. Overall this film laid
out an abundance of racist examples and have shown multiple issues within
this country as an entirety.
After reading the article "Racism in the Media" by Yasmin Jiwani
believes that the media does play a crucial role in providing the communities
specific examples of what will occur if people stray from the norms of the
societies. Jiwani states that the media "perpetuate certain ways of seeing
the world and peoples within that world" (Jiwani). The media has lead Jiwani
to feel that they set boundaries on everyone's behavior making certain no
"abnormal" activities are being pursued. The media presents this idea that all
people have a group they identify with and there is no straying from one's
group. The fear of extracting from one group and embracing the differences
of another string from the constant banter occurring in the media. Also as it
was stated in the article, "They tell us how society sees us and at the same
time, tell us how to behave in society" (jiwani). The media plays a drastic role
in how the world views different cultures, religions, and societies but with the
constant negativity involving the public this racial issue will not be solved
effectively.
