When my parents gifted me a Discman in my teenage years, I was so intrigued by

its amazing capabilities that I dissected the device to learn more about it. Motivated
by aforestated love for technology, I opted for undergrad in computer science. At
College I worked on a project that had both business and technology to it; merging
augmented reality technology with an online jewelry shopping website. The
project gave me a clear view of the kind of job I would like to pursue post my
engineering a mix of technology and strategy. I joined Deloitte as a Business
Technology Analyst right after completing my under-graduation.
In my 2+ years of work experience in IT consulting at Deloitte, I have leveraged as
many opportunities as were available to learn about the business domain of
healthcare in the US, the primary industry I have worked in. However, I now realize
that my career aspiration of becoming a technology consultant will not be fulfilled
unless I have a holistic appreciation and insightful knowledge of business. To
achieve the same, I need to develop competence in business disciplines.
Furthermore, I intend to gain a greater understanding of different industries and
practices within them and dynamics of different economies. At Deloitte, while I
would be able to learn and absorb parts of these over the medium term, not only
would the pace of learning and growth be slow but also the understanding would be
adhoc and without theoretical and conceptual frameworks. The HKUST MBA at this
point will offer the right trajectory for my plans , a trajectory infused with optimum
mix of learning and exposure. In the foreseeable future post the MBA , I would like
to serve at a manegerial position with an established consulting firm. As a
manager , I aim to expend the knowledge attained in the MBA to various projects
and initiatives within the firm , the implementation of business models will help me
in developing a refined business knowledge quotient. As I go up the ladder , I intend
to rise to a positon of partner.
HKUST is a leading business school in Asia with internationally diverse faculty
members who are not only academics but also industry practitioners; this will
provide me with an opportunity to gain insight into global practices while also
getting a strong foundation of concepts and frameworks. While core terms at HKUST
will develop strong grounding in various business disciplines, the flexible curriculum
will allow me to tailor my elective classes towards the programs of my interest. For
instance, Consulting Skills for Managers will provide me with the key skills required
to solve business problems, providing me confidence and insights. Small batch with
students from over 30 nationalities will provide with an unsurpassed global
experience and undivided attention. Hong Kong is an ideal city for valuable
exposure to the business world along with a plethora of opportunities for my career
growth post MBA. Lastly , I plan to leverage the exchange program with a school
such as Kellogg to delve further into global business practices and to understand a
different economy and culture.
A dual major in Information and Technology Management and Strategy and
Leadership will enable me to excel as a technology consultant, a consultant who
not only understands IT but also understands its correlation with business.
