Description
Detcon Model FP-624C sensors are
non-intrusive Smart sensors designed to
detect and monitor Combustible Gas in
air over the range of 0-100% LEL (lower
explosive limit). The sensor assembly consists of a matched-pair catalytic
bead sensor in a stainless steel housing, a plug-in control transmitter circuit,
a base connector board and an explosion proof enclosure.
Features
t CSA and UL Approved: Class I, Division 1, Groups B, C, & D
t Compatible with PLCs, SCADA, DCS, or a variety of host controllers
via 4-20 mA, and/or RS-485, and/or alarm relays
t Sensor status and parameters accessible via RS-485 (Modbus)
t Menu programmable relays standard (two alarms plus fault)
t Simple menu driven calibration - takes less than 3 minutes
t Backlit LCD and LED indicators for FAULT and CAL status
t Plug-in field-replaceable transmitter and sensor
t Long sensor life expectancy: averaging longer than five years in harsh
offshore drilling/production environment
t High resistance to poisons such as sulfides, chlorides, silicon-based contaminants etc.
t Low power consumption (less than 3.5 watts versus 8+ watts on competitive brands)

NOTE: All component types that may be attached to this ATEX and cCSAus certified junction
box shall be approved components and shall have hazardous location ratings that are rated
equal to or greater than the junction box.

6. Liquids shall not be used when there is risk of producing and explosive mixture by the decomposition
of or release of oxygen by these liquids.
7. Oil-filled contactors shall not be used.
8. The use of energy storage devices may present difficulties, due to the possibility of sparking, after
isolation from the supply, when the enclosure cover is removed. In addition, secondary cells, and in
some cases primary cells may emit flammable gas not considered under the normal certification
conditions. The following requirements shall apply:
8.1 All such devices shall be provided with adequate means to prevent incendive sparking when
flameproof covers are removed.
8.2 Enclosures which can be opened more quickly than the time necessary for the discharge of
incorporated capacitors to a residual energy of:
0.2 mJ for electrical apparatus of Group I or Group IIA, or
06 mJ for electrical apparatus of Group IIB
0.02 mJ for electrical apparatus of Group IIC
shall be provided with label stating delay needed before attempting to open the enclosure. If enclosed
components have a temperature above that of the temperature classification of the electrical apparatus a
label shall be provided stating the delay necessary before attempting to open the enclosure to allow the
component to cool below the temperature classification
9. No holes whether for mechanical or electrical purposes and whether blind or clear shall be drilled in
the enclosure other than those shown on the Component Certificate drawings.
10. All entry devices shall be of a type specified in the certification documents having an appropriate
component certificate and suitable for the conditions of use, or be specifically certified with the
apparatus.
11. Any unused entry shall be closed by a device of a type specified in the certification documents having
an appropriate component certificate and suitable for the conditions of use, or be specifically certified
with the apparatus.
12. The holder of the final Certificate will be required to provide information to enable the test authority
to verify compliance with the above and the relevant parts of the certification standard not explicitly
covered by the Component Certificate. (e.g., Temperature classification)
13. The window temperature must not exceed 75C.
Installation
Use the 0.25 mounting holes on the ears and suitable hardware for mounting to a wall or pipe.
Use internal and external grounding points as required or recommended by electrical installation
guidelines.
When installed with conduit runs, install a properly rated conduit seal within 18 of each conduit entry
point.
Properly rated NPT blanking plugs must be installed on any conduit entry that is not used.
Make sure the ambient temperature at place of installation is within the rated temperature limits of this
device.
Operation
Always remove power to devices within junction box prior to removing cover

A 7/64 (2.77 mm) Allen screwdriver tool is required for lock/unlocking of threaded cover prior to
removal.
If the cover cannot be unthreaded by hand force, use a wide span wrench (grabbing knobs on cover) or use
a strap wrench (grabbing circumference of cover) to unthread cover.
When returning junction box to service, always tighten the cover down snugly until the O-ring seal is
compressed.
Maintenance
If threading of cover becomes difficult, apply small amount of non-volatile non-corrosive thread grease to
keep aluminium threads from locking up.
Replace this junction box if there are visible signs of significant corrosion on the metallic enclosure. Replace
the cover if there is any evidence of damage to glass lens. Replace the O-ring if it is damaged.
Avoid scratching of the exterior paint to maximize corrosion resistance.
Minimize direct exposure to highly corrosive vapors and liquids.
