HVW
Vent shaft level (RL +120.00m) is lower than Methodist School (RL +122.00m). So a retaining wall is
needed. Retaining wall area is currently within the existing canal diversion. After removing temporary
canal, JV will construct the retaining wall.
th
LTA has no comments on retaining wall design which had been submitted on 09 May 2014.
th
Entrance 1 micro pile amendment design was approved on 26 May 2014.

CSW
For Canal widening section C, the existing structure is only 75mm thk wall with BRC mesh at center. PUB
requested to replace whole canal of section C with new design. JV highlighted that whole replacement
needs longer construction period and JV cant achieve the completion of section C before TOP.
st
In an external meeting with LTA, N-Parks and PUB on 21 Jan 2014, N-Parks and PUB agreed to
exclude section C from station TOP. JV separated project reference number for section C from CSW
station.
Post meeting Note :
th
th
BCA has approved Canal Widening sec C RC design & ERSS design on 09 June 2014 & 19 June

Option 3
For Chestnut canal, strengthening with slab over was proposed because the existing canal was built long
time ago as per old requirement and it is turned out that the current rebar and structural dimensions of the
existing canal couldnt take even the original loading condition according to the latest code. Permanent
structure strengthening design and ERSS design have been approved by BCA. JV is waiting for PUB
Sewers approval. CCTV inspection report has been submitted to PUB Sewer on 06.05.2014.
For Railmall compensation drain, additional cell similar with CSW canal widening will be provided. DBO
bus shelter of Railmall requires 3.6m wide clearance including 0.6m set back for ballard. But the site
condition could not accommodate. New bus shelter is to be replaced.
PUB instructed to make 2m expansion if there is no internal wall and 2.6m if internal wall in the meeting
th
on 19 Mar 2014. JV is checking constructability.
Finally 1m expansion was compromised. JV is preparing construction method for PUBs acceptance.
JV proposed the west staircase/ ramp of POB2 to shift out of road reserved line. Maximum distance is
around 2 m from RRL.
LTA architect commented to change east ramp from 3 tiers to 2 tiers and to show link way & foot path. JV
provided LTA with a proposal.
LTA architect retracted their comment because the minimum canal clearance cant be achieved.

JV await acceptance from LTA road.
Drain submission to PUB and tree planting submission to N-Park can also be linked to the above issues.
C913P advised that JV should proceed while they awaited acceptance on the proposal.
Regarding DDSS submission, drawings are being updated and will be submitted by next week followed

Relief Wells
Analysis has been carried out relief wells plugging at HVW station. Relief wells can be plugged and the
water level should be monitored. As of now, all the relief wells and inlets to the sump pits have been
plugged and water table is getting recovered; current readings of the in-excavation piezometers are well
below the review levels.
Info

7.4

Slope cutting
A meeting with SLA, LTA and JV was held and SLA has agreed to cut further into their land even beyond
RRL to make the slope stable unless the cutting affects their Railway corridor. JV substantiated the slope
cutting does not reach to the Railway. JV awaits SLAs written email confirmation to proceed further
th
checking with URA and N-park. LTA Road said SLA will issue the official correspondence within 07 Feb
2014.
JV had submitted the response to comments with the revised report on 02

acceptance from LTA on 16 May 2014.

Also, JV has received ACs comments on 07 May 2014 and will reply soon. Since AC didnt accept the
soil parameters used in back analysis, JV is to proof by doing tri-axial tests. Two locations have been
suggested by QPD for the tests.
Further, since AC doesnt agree for backfilling, JV is seeking LTAs and SLAs approval for leaving the
land, without back filling again, after the temporary cut of the existing slope in between change

GS E&C-TS JV
Response

Parameters obtained
from the back
analysis might not
as reliable as
laboratory testing. It
is commonly known
that slope
deteriorates with
time. We performed
sensitivity studies
and discovered that
anything less than
c=3kPa and =33
will not be able to
achieve a factor
safety of 1.5.
Attached with the
sensitivity studies
for your reference.

The sensitivity
study does not
match the material
parameters seen on
site; hence the
back analysis
provides an
optimum design
parameter which
would better
reflect on the
material in reality.
By reducing the
material
parameters (c)
from 3kPa to 0kPa,
were not
effectively
modelling the
slope on site.

Comments

We maintain our
earlier comments.
To verify the
difference in
calculations, we
recommend lab
testing to confirm
the design
parameters, i.e. if
there is any c in
the fill material.

drawing, all slopes
shall be cut (hence
the slope shall not
be backfilled).
Verification of the
backfill material is
therefore not
necessary.
