Tested Beyond
Industry Standards
In addition to the tests required
for the ECF-2 classication, Cat
DEO undergoes four proprietary
multi-cylinder endurance tests, a
variety of quality assurance tests
and thousands of hours of eld
service. Only when it has passed
all these tests can it be approved
by Caterpillar. The chart to the left
indicates the differences between
ECF-2 standards and the proprietary
standards of Caterpillar.

Synthetic engine oil for Caterpillar and other original equipment manufacturer
earthmoving, commercial, marine, and on-highway truck diesel engines.
SAE 0W-30
Recommended Use
Many Caterpillar machines operate in climates that have severely cold
wintersa condition that is hard on engines and equipment. Often, coldsoaked engines are difficult to start. These same engines may also be
subjected to the stress of very hot temperatures in summer.
Cat Arctic DEO SYN is beneficial at temperature extremes. The superior
lubricating ability of the blend of two Group IV synthetic base stocks
means diesel engines will start more easily and experience less wear at
temperatures as low as -40 C. At the other extreme, its high temperature
lubricity and superior oxidation resistance result in reduced wear in high
temperature operation. Cat Arctic DEO SYN is recommended for applications
with the following original equipment manufacturer requirements:
API Service Classifications
DieselCH-4, CG-4, CF-4, CF

Important terms
Nitration
The formation of nitrogen acids in oil, resulting in increased viscosity, corrosive wear, and
sludge and varnish on pistons and cylinder walls.
Sulfated Ash Level
The amount of non-combustible material (ash) left when a certain quantity of oil is burned
using a standard industry test method. These compounds contibute to TBN or oil alkalinity.

Fuel Compatibility
For maximum engine service life and oil life, use Cat NGEO
EL250 with low sulfur gaseous fuels that contain less than 0.43
mg hydrogen sulfide per mega Joule (0.45 g hydrogen sulfide
per BTU).
Engines using high sulfur natural gas or bio-gas (from landfills
and sewage digesters) may also benefit from Cat NGEO EL250,
but a shorter oil change interval may be required.
Cat Natural Gas Engine Oil is fomulated from select base stocks
blended with special additives to provide:
Excellent anti-oxidation/nitration properties
Thermal stability
Reduced carbon and sludge formulation
Cat NGEO EL250 is also compatible with exhaust catalyst
applications that require a low phosphorus oil. With a typical
phosphorus level of 300 PPM, Cat NGEO EL250 meets the
requirements of most catalyst suppliers.
Typical Characteristics*
Oxidation
The combination of oil and oxygen that degrades oil, resulting in increased viscosity, as
well as varnish, and sludge deposits.

Advanced Formula for Maximum Performance and Protection
The Cat Arctic TDTO formulation is a carefully balanced blend of top quality
viscosity loss.
Applications
Cat Arctic TDTO is the preferred
transmission and drive train oil for
low temperature operation in certain
applications. Refer to SEBU6250.
In very cold weather, viscous transmission oil may create considerable drag on the
engine during startup. Transmission drag may prevent the engine from starting. The
low temperature performance of Cat Arctic TDTO improves cold weather engine
starting ability.

Cat Special Application Engine Oil is the
only oil approved by Caterpillar for use in
the 3116 and 3126 Marine Diesel Engines with
mechanical unit injection and a closed crankcase
ventilation system. This system circulates
blowby gases from the engine crankcase to the
turbocharger inlet. These blowby gases can form
harmful deposits in the turbocharger and the
aftercooler. Cat Special Application Engine
Oil is designed to reduce or eliminate the
formation of these harmful deposits.
Note: Cat SAEO should not be used in 3406, 3126, C-10,

Less dust ingested = reduced engine wearAn immediate dust build-up on the filter's
very fine synthetic surface creates a cake that reduces the amount of dust reaching the
engine. UHE Air Filters are almost at peak efficiency when brand new.
Higher efficiency = less restrictionThe surface particle cake is more porous than
standard dust-coated media fibers, allowing deeper fibers to filter longer while providing
better air flow.
Less restriction = better engine performance and fuel economyIt takes less power to
pull in air so the engine breathes easier.
Longer filter life = reduced contaminationHigher dust capacity reduces filter changes
and the chance of contamination during service for even greater protection.

Standard Media
Filters with standard media (right) become dust-filled deep inside the media.
Because particles get trapped in the particle build-up on the surface of UHE Filters
(left), the media remains permeable longerextending filter life and efficiency.
Up to six times the life in fine dust or heavy carbon environments
UHE Filters work best in applications where extremely fine dust particles
make up a high percentage of contaminants in the atmosphere or in operating
conditions with high amounts of exhaust soot, which tends to plug normal filters
at low hours.
Avoiding excessive dust on the job site may not be possible. Avoiding damage
the dust can cause is possible with Cat UHE Air Filters.

It takes a true system approach to engine design to meet the need for high performance
and protect air quality at the same time. Every part of the engine has an important role
to play, especially the lters.
Datasheets
The Cat CV Filter (part number 296-8325) is an important part of the emissions
reduction strategy employed on Cat C13 and C15 on-highway engines to meet
2007 EPA emissions standards.
841
Other
Easy to Service
Replace the Cat CV Filter at the oil change interval recommended in the Operation and
Maintenance Manual. Customers using extended oil drain intervals may need to change
the lter at intervals differing from the extended oil drain interval.
No special tools are required. To remove the old lter, unscrew the used element from
its housing and discard following local lter disposal regulations. To install a new lter,
lubricate the o-rings with clean engine oil, thread into the housing and tighten to 25 N-m.
Do not over tighten.

Size of Contamination
A particle five microns across can
damage fuel systems. A micron is onemillionth of a meter. To give you an idea of
how small that is, an average human hair
is 80 microns in diameter. Tolerances in
Cat fuel injectors are 1/20th the diameter
of a human hair. Its easy to understand
how even small contaminants can
damage todays fuel systems.
