Chapter 1
THE PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION AND ITS DESIGN
INTRODUCTION
Rationale of the Project Implementation
As multimedia continues to immerse our everyday lives, students have
become surrounded with video experiences at every turn. The classroom should
not be an exception. To help usher in a new multimedia learning experience,
classroom projectors have become the new teaching tool to make the most out of
the learning experience that will offer superior advantages for teachers and
students. The multimedia is one of the best educational techniques because it

addresses more than one sense simultaneously, as it addresses the senses of

sight & hearing. (Aloraini, 2005):
Imagine surfing the web looking for research with the entire class engaged
in what is found. Or, what if you could use educational videos to help captivate
students on a challenging topic? Projectors bring sights and sounds into the
classroom and offer a visual source for practically anything you can connect.
Students can surf the internet with a group of students to explore books
online. Topics can be researched and new book sources can be discovered
instantly, together. Students are curious about everything. By sharing information
on a big screen with a group, educators can pique their curiosity and enhance
the learning experience
Books are perhaps the most valuable resource available for helping
students learn and grow. The textbook is very important but it is not the only
medium in teaching (Matijevi, 1999).
Using modern technology to assist school instructors with his or her daily
lessons should definitely be regarded as a positive, acceptable method of
instruction and not definitely does not prohibits students from understanding or
critical thinking. This is especially useful in a Graduate Studies environment,
where interactive and independent learning is a must.

According to Dahar (2010), Instructional technology empowers students

and teachers by improving skills and concepts through multiple representations
enhanced visualizations.
Ila Mariss (1980) cited that in her researched that the academic
achievement of the experimental group students rose as a result of using the
multimedia group as there were statistically-significant differences of the average
achievement in favor of the experimental group students who used the
multimedia group.
Technology's impact in schools has been significant, advancing how
students learn. How teacher and how efficiently and effectively educational
services can be delivered," said Carolyn April, director, industry analysis,
CompTIA. " With emerging technologies such as tablets and netbooks,
interactive whiteboards and wireless solutions gaining ground in the classroom,
the reliance on IT by the education market will only grow in the years ahead
Technology is therefore both a tool and a catalyser and it can become a
medium through which change can happen.
This project implementation aimed to facilitate and assessed an interactive
teaching learning process between the students and the professors in the
Graduate School of Cebu Technological University - Main Campus, Cebu City.

The goal of the Graduate School of Cebu Technological University, Main

Campus is to accelerate high level professionalism and globally competitive
technology culture which assures its vision as Center of Excellence in
Technology Management, Education, Research and Extension. To this goal
everyone adheres.

Literature Background
Digital Light Processing technology, which is a micro mirror device finding
application in many fields .DLP has bought a revolution in the video projection
environment. It provides all digital projection displays that offers superior picture
quality in terms of resolution, brightness, contrast and colour fidelity This was the
invention of Larry Hombeck, a scientist from Texas instruments in 1987. The
paper illustrates the advantages of DLP over existing projection technologies .
The winning of two Emmy awards for broadcasting excellence by DLP products
is an example for its technical excellence. Based on thousands of hours of life
and environmental testing ,the DLP systems exhibited inherent reliability. Human
eyes see more visual information and perceive higher resolution with DLP. It has
revolutionized the audio and video industry. As a conclusion, DLP is only choice
of digital visual communication , today and in the future.
Digital Light Processing (DLP) is a system for projecting images that's based on
a unique optical semiconductor chip from Texas Instruments. The chip contains

millions of tiny mirrors that are individually moved by digital signals in

synchronization with a light source and color wheel. The result is a sharp
projected image that's clearly visible in a normally lit room Digital Light
Processing (DLP) is a revolutionary new way to project and display
information. Based on the Digital Micro mirror Device (DMD) developed by
Texas Instruments, DLP creates the final link to display digital visual information.
DLP technology is being provided as subsystems or "engines" to market leaders
in the consumer, business, and professional segments of the projection display
industry. In the same way the compact disc revolutionized the audio industry,
DLP will revolutionize video projection.
DLP has three key advantages over existing projection technologies. The
inherent digital nature of DLP enables noise-free, precise image quality with
digital gray scale and color reproduction. Its digital nature also positions DLP to
be the final link in the digital video infrastructure. DLP is more efficient than
competing transmissive liquid crystal display (LCD) technology because it is
based on the reflective DMD and does not require polarized light. Finally, close
spacing of the micromirrors causes video images to be projected as seamless
pictures with higher perceived resolution. For movie projection, a computer slide
presentation, or an interactive, multi-person, worldwide collaborationDLP is the
only choice for digital visual communications, today and in the future.

This technology now a day's been a valuable tool in education. It works

the teachers' task of imparting knowledge to their students much easier while
maintaining a high level of interest. In the last two decades, technology is in
advance leaps and bounds, the implication of these advances to education are
tremendous, giving those of us entrusted with the task moulding the next
generation of leaders and citizens of the country so many tools for teaching.
Roblyer (2006) suggested that the integration of technology into teaching
and learning can increase students' motivation. Research also supports the belief
that the use of technology in education not only motivates students but also
provides them with avenues for higher-level of thinking (Brandsford, Brown and
Cooking, 2000; Ringstaff and Kelly, 2002)
There are several reasons why education leaders are expected to know
and utilize instructional technology, especially those technologies related to
computer use for accessing and finding information and for creating and
communicating new knowledge. These reasons include the following: (1) the
need to prepare students to function in an information-based, internet-using
society; (2) the need to make students competent in using tools found in almost
all work areas; and (3) the need to make education more effective and efficient.
School leaders need to help students become technology literate, as outline in
enGauge 21st Century Skills: Literacy in the Digital Age (NCREL & Metiri Group,
2003). School leaders also need to consider increasing educator technology
effectiveness and modeling it after nationally accepted guidelines, such as the

National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (International Society

for Technology in Education, 2000).
The most effective way to teach and learn is using DLP. When integrated
the class, these tools keep students' attention and prevent monotony of what
could become a boring session. It enables the students to use their different
sense and learning and understanding of the lesson are lasting and enduring.
Widespread use of technology is changing the way we work, learn, and
communicate-even the way we carry out our regular, daily activities. In education,
technology has bad a dramatic impact on teaching and learning. Interactivelearning classes can be augmented through the use of technology to provide
more effective experiences for faculty, students and community participants. With
their ready access to new technologies, educational institutions are wellpositioned to take advantage of rapid changes in the field. (Seifer and Mihalynuk,
2005).
Cebu Technological University is one of these educational institutions.
Thus, this project study.

THE PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
