On Friday, July 1, 2016 at approx. 5:49 AM, Jackson Police Officers responded to 3971 Boozer
Rd. regarding a shooting. Upon officers arrival it was learned that a male victim, identified as
Jacob Morgan, 26, had been shot once in the back of the head with a shotgun at this location. He
was transported to UMMC for medical treatment. He is listed in critical condition. Officers were
able to detain a suspect, Emmett Johnson, 58, upon arrival to the scene. He was transported to
the Robbery/Homicide Division for questioning in this matter.
During the preliminary investigation, it was learned that the victim and the suspect were both at
this location in a wooded area when the victim was allegedly accidentally shot. A shotgun
believed to be used in this incident was recovered at the scene. After questioning Emmett
Johnson, he was arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Assault stemming from this
investigation. He has been booked into the city jail.
